Remission after CAR T-cell therapy: Do lymphoma patients recover a normal life?

Chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR T cells) can induce prolonged remission in a substantial subset of patients with relapse/refractory lymphoma. However, little is known about patients' life after CAR T-cell therapy. We prospectively assessed the multidimensional recovery of lymphoma patients in remission, before leukapheresis, before CAR T-cell infusion, and 3, 6, and 12 months thereafter.

Public Dental Service Access Policies for People with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil: A Pre-Evaluation Study.

This study sought to carry out a systematic and preliminary evaluation of the policies on access to public dental services for people with ASD in a Brazilian city. The study, conducted between November/2019 and February/2020, was developed through document analysis, the design of the theoretical logical model of the policies, and seven semi-structured interviews with key informants. The sample was intentionally selected.

Strabismus and Health Related Quality of Life in a pediatric Portuguese population.

Strabismus is a common condition among children, and its psychosocial impact has been demonstrated in recent years. The interest in a more comprehensive approach was enhanced by the recognition of health as a four-dimensional concept, arising the term Health-related Quality of Life. This article aims To perform a literature review about oral health among people with autism spectrum disorder and dental management strategies for this group. An integrative literature review was carried out in three databases, associating the descriptors: (autism or autism spectrum disorder) with (oral health or oral diseases) and (dental care or dental services).

Surveillance and high vaccination coverage: how Portugal overcame the collapse and regained control of the pandemic.

The uncertainties about COVID-19 require evaluating national responses to identify successes and failures in the pandemic control. This article analyzes Portugal´s response, particularly the contribution of its health and surveillance systems in dealing with the pandemic. An integrative literature review was conducted, including consultations of observatories, documents, and institutional websites.

The social construction of the PrEP1519 study: conditions of possibility for advances in HIV/AIDS prevention.

This paper analyzed the genesis of the PrEP1519 study and feasibility conditions for its construction. A qualitative-approach study was conducted using the Bourdieusian sociology framework to reconstruct the dynamics of the social environment where PrEP1519 emerged during 2015-2018. A document analysis and ten in-depth interviews were carried out to analyze the trajectory of the project.

Influence of Sociodemographic Determinants on the Hodgkin Lymphoma Baseline Characteristics in Long Survivors Patients Enrolled in the Prospective Phase 3 Trial AHL2011.

Introduction: Whereas numerous studies on several cancers describe the link between social conditions and disease severity, little is known about the social and demographic characteristics of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) patients. At diagnosis, 10-15% of the patients in the advanced stages have a well-known poor outcome owing to their chemoresistance, but the determinants of the more advanced stages remain elusive. The objective of the present study was to decipher the potential impact of social disparities on the disease features at diagnosis and analyze how the sociodemographic patient features could impact the HL outcome of patients with advanced-stage HL enrolled in the AHL2011 trial.

Safety of biological therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in administrative health databases: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic inflammatory disease that affects the synovial fluid of joints, tendons, and some extra-articular sites. Biologic agents have been highly effective and are comparable in reducing RA symptoms, slowing disease progression, and improving physical function; however, concerns have been raised about the risks of several potential adverse effects. Thus, this study aimed to assess the safety of biological therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in observational studies using administrative health databases.

Sphingosine Kinase-1 Is Overexpressed and Correlates with Hypoxia in Osteosarcoma: Relationship with Clinicopathological Parameters.

The Sphingosine kinase-1/Sphingosine 1-Phosphate (SphK1/S1P) signaling pathway is overexpressed in various cancers, and is instrumental for the adaptation to hypoxia in a number of solid tumor models, but no data are available in osteosarcoma. Here we report that SphK1 and the S1P receptor are involved in HIF-1α accumulation in hypoxic osteosarcoma cells. FTY720 (Fingolimod), which targets SphK1 and S1P prevented HIF-1α accumulation, and also inhibited cell proliferation in both normoxia and hypoxia unlike conventional chemotherapy.

The international response of primary health care to COVID-19: document analysis in selected countries.

This study examines the primary health care (PHC) organization in response to the COVID-19 epidemic. This is a descriptive study based on the document analysis of the countries' responses to the coronavirus pandemic with emphasis on PHC. In various countries, there have been different organizations and impacts of strategies since they have conducted actions according to the local characteristics of disease transmission, demography, public health services organization, and health system's capacity and financing, especially in the PHC area.

The aim of this study was to analyze legislative proceedings on fluoridation policies in Brazil from 1963 to 2019. The theoretical reference was Pierre Bourdieu. A document search was performed on legislative proceedings that address the theme of fluoridation in Brazil as a public health measure and the discussions in the National Congress.

Population Pharmacokinetics of Ibrutinib and Its Dihydrodiol Metabolite in Patients with Lymphoid Malignancies.

Background And Objective: Ibrutinib is used for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other lymphoid malignancies. The aim of this work is to develop a population pharmacokinetic model for ibrutinib and its dihydrodiol metabolite to quantify pharmacokinetic inter- and intra-individual variability, to evaluate the impact of several covariates on ibrutinib pharmacokinetic parameters, and to examine the relationship between exposure and clinical outcome.

Methods: Patients treated with ibrutinib were included in the study and followed up for 2 years.

The impact of chronic myeloid leukemia on employment: the French prospective study.

Patients with chronic myeloid leukemia treated with breakpoint cluster region-Abelson tyrosine kinase inhibitors are likely to survive in excess of 20 years after diagnosis. New challenges appear as we consider life after the disease, including professional challenges and the social reintegration of patients. Purpose: Describe a case series of ocular Cat-scratch-disease (CSD) with vision-threatening findings and poor outcomes, indicating severity of disease.

Methods: Retrospective case series from the Uveitis Department of São Paulo Federal University from 2011 to 2015.

Results: In this period, six eyes of four patients had confirmed diagnosis of CSD.

The Group Oral Health Movement in Brazil.

Group Oral Health (GOH) is a specific phenomenon in time, separate from other "Alternative Odontology", and a theoretical reference for dental practice in healthcare services. This study is an attempt to understand how long "Alternative Odontology" will remain with the social context of struggling for oral health in Brazil, based on the positions of the founding agents and their precursors, bearing in mind the concepts of GOH, GH (Group Health) and the SUS (Unified Healthcare System). We started out with Pierre Bourdieu's Practice Theory, complemented with Gramsci's concept of hegemony and counter-hegemony.

Comparison between pediatric and adult adipose mesenchymal stromal cells.

Background: Adipose-derived mesenchymalstromal cells (ASC) are currently tested in regenerative medicine to promote tissue reconstruction after injury. Regardingautologous purpose, the possible loss of therapeutic function and cell properties during aging have been questioned in adults. To date no reliable information is available concerning ASC from pediatric patients and a better knowledge is required for clinical applications.

Horizontal Gaze Palsy and Progressive Scoliosis With ROBO 3 Mutations in Patients From Cape Verde.

Horizontal gaze palsy with progressive scoliosis (HGPPS) is a rare and autosomal recessive syndrome. We describe 2 cases of HGPPS which are the first documented in patients of African ancestry from an isolated population in Cape Verde. They demonstrated typical findings on neuro-ophthalmic examination and brain magnetic resonance imaging.

The genesis of the AIDS policy and AIDS Space in Brazil (1981-1989).

Objective: To analyze the genesis of the policy for controlling AIDS in Brazil.

Methods: Socio-historical study (1981-1989), based on Bordieu's genetic sociology, by document analysis, bibliographical review, and in-depth interviews. It consisted of a connection between the analysis of the paths of 33 agents involved in the creation of a social space focusing on AIDS-related issues and the historical possibility conditions of the drafting of a specific policy.
