Anemia prevalence among patients with diabetic foot ulcers necessitating surgery on admission: a preliminary, retrospective comparative study.

Introduction: Anemia is significantly more prevalent in patients with diabetic foot complications. Severity of anemia has been shown to be associated with severity of DFD. The association between Hb level and DFU has rarely been investigated in surgical settings.

Amputation as a First Treatment is Highly Associated With Late Presentation: An Underestimated Modifiable Major Risk Factor for Diabetic Foot Ulcer.

Purpose: Several risk factors for lower extremity amputation in diabetic patients have been identified; however, late presentation has been poorly investigated. Very few studies looked at the impact of such risk factor. As none has investigated the link between admission to amputation and late presentation in this population, we investigated such association.

Evaluation of nutrition support practices: Results from a nationwide survey.

Background: Multiple clinical guidelines are available to improve and standardize the delivery of nutrition support. However, recommendations are not being universally applied at the bedside due to challenges of resources and barriers of knowledge. Assessing the current level of nutrition support practice is the first step to understand the barriers and ultimately implement potential strategies to increase guideline adherence and promote quality nutrition support in hospitals.
