Prospective and retrospective studies have associated myeloablative conditioning regimens with increased non-relapse mortality and less intense regimens with disease relapse, leading to similar overall survival rates. Analyze the experience with the different RIC schemes in patients transplanted for AML/MDS in our program.

Over the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of enduring mental health on healthcare workers has become increasingly evident. This review focuses on post-pandemic mental health challenges faced by healthcare personnel in Latin America. This highlights the persistent burden on healthcare workers, especially women, which is exacerbated by economic disparities, inadequacies in the healthcare system, and ongoing occupational stressors.

Zoom & WhatsApp Digital Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Enhance Community Engaged Research with Women Immigrants from Mexico.

This article demonstrates how digital information and communication technologies (ICTs) (Zoom/WhatsApp) unexpectedly and counterintuitively proved to be valuable tools for community-engaged health research when, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, they were integrated into a research study testing a peer support group intervention with female immigrants from Mexico. Because of pandemic restrictions, we changed the study protocol to hold meetings remotely via Zoom rather than in person as originally planned. Because we recognized that this would lack some opportunities for participants to interact and develop relationships, we created a WhatsApp chat for each group.

Gender Disparities in Quality of Life Outcomes Among Kidney Stone Formers.

This study investigates gender-based disparities in health-related quality of life (HRQOL) outcomes among kidney stone patients and explores potential contributing factors. A retrospective review of medical records at the University of Rochester Medical Center was conducted on 2199 new urolithiasis patients who completed the Wisconsin Stone Quality of Life Questionnaire (WISQOL) standardized on a 0 to 100 scale. Demographic and clinical data were collected.

Clinician overconfidence in visual estimation of the posthepatectomy liver remnant volume: A proximal source of liver failure after major hepatic resection?

Background: Post-hepatectomy liver failure is a source of morbidity and mortality after major hepatectomy and is related to the volume of the future liver remnant. The accuracy of a clinician's ability to visually estimate the future liver remnant without formal computed tomography liver volumetry is unknown.

Methods: Twenty physicians in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery reviewed 20 computed tomography scans of patients without underlying liver pathology who were not scheduled for liver resection.

Background: Efforts to modulate the function of tumor-associated myeloid cell are underway to overcome the challenges in immunotherapy and find a cure. One potential therapeutic target is integrin CD11b, which can be used to modulate the myeloid-derived cells and induce tumor-reactive T-cell responses. However, CD11b can bind to multiple different ligands, leading to various myeloid cell functions such as adhesion, migration, phagocytosis, and proliferation.

Omega-3 fatty acids and individual variability in plasma triglyceride response: A mini-review.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death worldwide. Supplementation with the marine omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is associated with lower CVD risk. However, results from randomized controlled trials that examine the effect of omega-3 supplementation on CVD risk are inconsistent.

Botryoid-type of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the proximal and mid ureter in an adult woman.

We report a unique case of botryoid-type embryonal RMS of the proximal and mid ureter in a pregnant 29-year-old woman. The ureteral polyp consisted of a malignant small blue round cell tumor with a myxoid background and contained evidence of foci of immature cartilage and aggregates of epithelial cells reminiscent of hair follicle. Immunohistochemical stains for myogenin and desmin confirmed skeletal muscle, or rhabdomyoblastic, differentiation.

Myopericytoma of the ureter Incidental finding of a benign slowly growing tumor.

We present a unique case of a 6 cm, incidental, ureteral myopericytoma which was initially believed to be an ovarian tumor with mass effect, causing hydroureteronephrosis. A 75-year-old woman presented with a three-month history of postprandial cramps and heartburn. A right distal ureterectomy with en-bloc resection of the mass was performed.

Melanocytic nevus of the anal canal and granular cell tumor of the cecum: a case report and literature review of 2 coincidentally co-occurring neurocristopathies.

Granular cell tumors are predominantly benign soft tissue tumors originating from Schwann cells, whereas melanocytic nevi are benign proliferations of melanocytes. We present the case of a patient with the presence of both entities located in the cecum and anal canal, respectively, constituting an extremely rare coincidental finding. A 43-year-old woman was evaluated by colonoscopy for iron-deficiency microcytic anemia that had lasted for 1 year.

High levels of myeloid-derived cells are characteristic of the tumor microenvironment (TME) of advanced melanoma. These cells interact with tumor cells to suppress the development of antitumor immune responses, regulate tumor metastasis, and drive cancer's resistance to virtually all types of therapy. Therefore, methods to disrupt tumor-associated myeloid cell function are actively being sought to find a cure.

Background And Aims: Stress-related to self-isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic has shown a strong correlation with issues in the diet and health of the population. In this study, we aimed to relate the perceived stress of a group of Ecuadorian adults with emotional eating.

Study designs involving randomization can be difficult to communicate to participants, especially those with low literacy. The literature on strategies to explain research concepts is limited, especially for non-English speakers. We measured the effectiveness of a culturally and contextually situated multimedia approach to recruit a cohort of 60 female Mexican immigrants (FMI) to a randomized control trial (RCT) to reduce social isolation and depression.

Aim: To Describe our population of patients with AML and report the outcomes of our treatments.

Background: Portal venous reconstruction (PVR) is often needed during resection of hepatopancreato-biliary (HPB) malignancies. Primary repair (PR), autologous vein (AV), or cryopreserved cadaveric vein (CCV) are frequently utilized, however relative patency is not well studied.

Methods: All patients undergoing PVR between 2007-2019 at our center were identified.

Chronic restraint stress induces anxiety-like behavior and remodeling of dendritic spines in the central nucleus of the amygdala.

Previous studies have shown that the anxiogenic effects of chronic stress do not correlate with dendritic remodeling in the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA). We analyzed the effect of chronic restraint stress (CRS; 20 min/day for 14 days), relative to control (CTRL) conditions on anxiety-like behavior in the elevated plus maze (EPM) and the open field tests, and dendritic morphology, dendritic spine density and spine type numbers in pyramidal neurons of the CeA. Reversal of CRS-induced effects was explored in animals allowed a 14-day stress-free recovery after treatments.

Background: In our country, transplantation centers differ in the age limit for allogeneic hematopoietic transplantation (ALOHT). In our program, transplants with age- adjusted conditioning are performed in patients until 70 years old. Currently more than 60% of ALOHT reported to the Center for International Bone Marrow Transplantation Research (CIBMTR) are performed in patients older than 40 years.

E-Cigarette-Associated Endothelial Damage: A Potential Mechanism for Erectile Dysfunction.

Introduction: Electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) have increased in popularity as a potentially less harmful alternative to tobacco smoking; however, the literature suggests "vaping" can cause endothelial damage, which can adversely affect erectile function. While there is a known link between smoking cigarettes and erectile dysfunction (ED), the effect of e-cigs on erectile function has been understudied.

Objectives: To review the evidence for e-cig use causing endothelial dysfunction, to explore endothelial dysfunction as a potential mechanism for ED, and to determine if there is literature to support e-cigs as a cause of ED.
