Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) offers a more conservative treatment than total knee arthroplasty when osteoarthritis affects only one tibiofemoral knee compartment. Cemented UKA has become the gold standard due to its good functional outcomes and low revision rates. The most common reasons for revision with cemented UKA include aseptic loss, unexplained pain, and radiolucent lines.

The ion temperature and bulk motion velocity of the gas-filled regions of the hohlraum can be obtained by replacing the helium tamping gas in the hohlraum with deuterium-tritium (DT) gas and measuring the Doppler broadening and Doppler shift of the neutron spectrum produced by nuclear reactions in the hohlraum. To understand the spatial distribution of the neutron production inside the hohlraum, we have developed a new penumbral neutron imager with a 12 mm diameter field of view using a simple tungsten alloy spindle.

Prior work has demonstrated a high proportion of HER2-positive BCs, but our understanding of how HER2-positive LFS BCs respond to anti-HER2 treatments is limited.
Methods: BCs diagnosed in patients with germline TP53 variants between 2002-2022 were assembled from three institutions.
Hypothesis: In this communication, we test the hypothesis that sulfotransferase 1C2 (SULT1C2, UniProt accession no. Q9WUW8) can modulate mitochondrial respiration by increasing state-III respiration.
Methods And Results: Using freshly isolated mitochondria, the addition of SULT1C2 and 3-phosphoadenosine 5 phosphosulfate (PAPS) results in an increased maximal respiratory capacity in response to the addition of succinate, ADP, and rotenone.
Despite the high prevalence of pathogenic variants (PV) carriers in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil, germline genetic testing for hereditary breast cancer (HBC) is not available in the Brazilian public health system, and the prevalence of Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is not well established in other regions of Brazil. We assessed the occurrence of p.R337H carriers among women treated for breast cancer (BC) between January 2021 and January 2022 at public hospitals of Brasilia, DF, Brazil.

Objective: This paper illustrates a partner-engaged approach to contextualizing the IETP within an implementation research logic model (IRLM) to inform program sustainment and spread.
Setting: The project was conducted at five IETP sites: Tampa, Richmond, San Antonio, Palo Alto, and Minneapolis.

α-1-Microglobulin (A1M) is a circulating glycoprotein with antioxidant, heme-binding, and mitochondrial protection properties. The investigational drug RMC-035, a modified therapeutic A1M protein, was assessed for biodistribution and pharmacological activity in a broad set of in vitro and in vivo experiments, supporting its clinical development. Efficacy and treatment posology were assessed in various models of kidney ischemia and reperfusion injury (IRI).

Identifying the basic molecular characteristics of these lncRNAs and their regulation is important to understanding their biological function. Here, we determine that the Argonaute (Ago) proteins of the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway directly and uniformly repress bidirectional pericentromeric lncRNAs in a Dicer-dependent manner in mouse embryonic and adult stem cells.

Methods: This multicenter cohort study included women with a germline TP53 pathogenic or likely pathogenic variant and nonmetastatic breast cancer diagnosed between 2002 and 2022. Clinical and genetic data were obtained from institutional registries and clinical charts.
The growing number of people aging with HIV represents a group vulnerable to the symptom burdens of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND). Among younger groups, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has been shown to help people living with HIV manage HIV-related and other life stress, and although there is some theoretical and empirical evidence that it may be effective among those with cognitive deficits, the approach has not been studied in older populations with HAND. Participants (n = 180) 55 years or older with HIV and cognitive impairment were randomly assigned to either an 8-week MBSR arm or a waitlist control.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTakotsubo syndrome (TTS) is a rare cardiomyopathy, but its prevalence is increasing due to the greater availability of diagnostic tools, whose pathophysiology is unknown; however, the evidence points to an excess of catecholamines that ends up generating cardiac stunning. The cause of excessive sympathetic discharge is multifactorial, and some tumors may be related to their origin. In this case report, we present a female patient with TTS whose only identified triggering factor was an atrial myxoma, which generated an unusual clinical presentation.

The dorsal hippocampus (dHPC) is particularly crucial for episodic, spatial, and associative memory, and has been shown to be necessary for context- and cue-associated reward behaviors. The nucleus accumbens (NAc), a central structure in the mesolimbic reward pathway, integrates the salience of aversive and rewarding stimuli.

Background: Latinx populations have been more heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic than the general population of the US, including higher rates of hospitalization due to COVID-19 in eastern Massachusetts. We conducted a qualitative study to better understand the experiences of Latinx and Spanish-speaking patients who had clinically significant COVID-19 in the early months of the pandemic.
Methods: Thirteen qualitative, semistructured, phone interviews were conducted between December 2020 and April 2021 with Latinx and Spanish-speaking patients who had experienced clinically significant COVID-19 in the metro-north Boston area.
Current algorithms for diagnosing Lynch syndrome (LS) include multistep molecular tumor tests to distinguish LS-associated from sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC), which add cost and complexity to the evaluation. We hypothesized that PREMM5, a clinical LS prediction tool, could be an alternative approach to screen for LS, thereby lessening the need for specialized molecular diagnostics. We reviewed a consecutively ascertained institutional cohort of 1058 CRC patients on whom pathologic and clinical data were available, including prior LS germline testing.

Changes in the epidemiology of NCDs, NCD policies, health service capacity, and surveillance are discussed. PAHO's NCD program is guided by regional plans of action on specific NCDs and risk factors, as well as a comprehensive NCD plan.

Background: Proximal tubules (PTs) are exposed to many exogenous and endogenous nephrotoxins that pass through the glomerular filter.
Background: Individuals held in carceral settings were significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, limited research exists of the direct experiences of individuals detained by the United States (U.S.

Existing information about their design is limited and no standardized metric has been used to compare tax levels in the Region of the Americas. This study aimed to compare alcohol excise tax policies throughout the Americas, compare tax levels and consider opportunities to improve the impact of excise taxes on alcohol consumption and health.

For instance, sites of catabolism within the proximal tubule can occur at the brush border, within lysosomes following endocytosis, or even within the tubule lumen itself. The objective of the current study was to address these limitations and develop methodology to study the kidney disposition of a model therapeutic protein.
