The present study investigated the effect of low high-dietary-Advanced Glycation End products-based diets on oral disposition index-(DIo)-a marker of islet β-cell function and cardiometabolic risks factors in 38-overweight and obese Asian Indian-adults (aged 25-45 years with body-mass-index (BMI) ≥23kg/m) through 12-week isocaloric crossover feeding trial. Biochemical-measures included-glucose tolerance test (GTT), Insulin assay (0,30 and 120 min), lipid-profile, serum-adiponectin, serum-AGE and serum-Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances-(TBARS) assessed both at baseline and end of each intervention. Generalised linear models showed that low-dAGE diet significantly improved in oral disposition index [Least Square Mean (SE), +0.

Background And Purpose: Emerging studies have shown that gut-derived endotoxins might play a role in intestinal and systemic inflammation. Although the significance of intestinal permeability in modulating the pathogenesis of Schizophrenia (SCZ) is recognized, not much data on the specific role of intestinal permeability biomarkers, viz., zonulin, lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), and intestinal alkaline phosphatase (IAP) in SCZ is available.

Objective: The aim of this study is to measure the extent of oxidative stress and to see whether it has any correlation to changes in adiponectin levels in NAFLD subjects with and without Type 2 diabetes.

Methods: Subjects recruited from the Chennai Urban Rural Epidemiology Study comprise of 1: Normal Glucose Tolerance (NGT) subjects without NAFLD; 2: NGT with NAFLD; 3: Type 2 Diabetic patients [T2DM] without NAFLD and 4: T2DM with NAFLD. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), protein carbonyl (PCO), glutathione and adiponectin levels were measured by standard methods.

Objective: : Cell culture and animal model studies have strongly suggested a role for the rate-limiting enzyme for hexosamine biosynthesis, glutamine:fructose-6-phosphate amidotransferase (GFAT) in insulin resistance. However, there are very few clinical studies and none on Asian Indians, a high-risk group for type 2 diabetes (T2DM), which examined the role of GFAT in insulin resistance and T2DM.

Design And Method: : The study group comprised of T2DM subjects without any complications (n=25) and control non-diabetic subjects (n=23).

Purpose: To investigate the safety and efficacy of pneumatic displacement of submacular hemorrhage without the use of intravitreal tissue plasminogen activator (tPA).

Methods: In a prospective, consecutive, single-center, noncomparative, interventional case series, 20 consecutive patients with submacular hemorrhage due to various etiologies (duration, 1-30 days; visual acuity, hand movements to 20/125) were treated with intravitreal perfluoropropane gas injection followed by prone positioning for 5 days to 7 days. Patients were observed 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after the procedure.

A single page physical activity questionnaire was designed for use in epidemiological studies. The questionnaire estimates 24 h energy expenditure as well as components of occupation and discretionary leisure time activities. Estimates of physical activity were highly repeatable, when the questionnaire was re-administered within a 4 wk period (e.
