Cerebral cavernous malformation with associated Streptococcus pyogenes abscess in a child: a case report and literature review.

Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) are angiographically occult vascular lesions that present with a variety of neurological symptoms, including seizures, features of raised intracranial pressure and focal neurological deficits. In extremely rare circumstances, CCMs have presented with concomitant brain abscess formation. To date, five cases have previously been reported, the majority of which have affected patients aged 16 years or older.

Finding Solutions to Scaling Parenting Programs That Work: a Systems-Contextual Approach.

Prevention science has now encompassed decades of research exploring risk and protective factors and effective programs for the prevention and treatment of childhood behavioral, emotional, and developmental concerns. This paper shares our experience over the last 40 years as program developers and researchers in responding to contemporary needs and finding solutions to barriers preventing access to evidence-based parenting support. We propose a systems-contextual approach to designing and implementing programs that meet families' needs and preferences and promote self-regulatory capacity across the lifespan.

Monomer Composition as a Mechanism to Control the Self-Assembly of Diblock Oligomeric Peptide-Polymer Amphiphiles.

Diblock oligomeric peptide-polymer amphiphiles (PPAs) are biohybrid materials that offer versatile functionality by integrating the sequence-dependent properties of peptides with the synthetic versatility of polymers. Despite their potential as biocompatible materials, the rational design of PPAs for assembly into multichain nanoparticles remains challenging due to the complex intra- and intermolecular interactions emanating from the polymer and peptide segments. To systematically explore the impact of monomer composition on nanoparticle assembly, PPAs were synthesized with a random coil peptide (XTEN2) and oligomeric alkyl acrylates with different side chains: ethyl, -butyl, -butyl, and cyclohexyl.

Deciphering the complexity of the chemicals in food packaging materials using molecular networks.

Chemicals from packaging materials might be transferred into food resulting in consumer exposure. Identifying these migrated chemicals is highly challenging and crucial to perform their safety assessment, usually starting by the understanding of the chemical composition of the packaging material itself. This study explores the use of the Molecular Networking (MN) approach to support identification of the extracted chemicals.

Objective: Host immunogenetics (Human Leukocyte Antigen, HLA) play a critical role in the human immune response to melanoma, influencing both melanoma prevalence and immunotherapy outcomes. Beneficial outcomes hinge on the successful binding of epitopes of melanoma antigens to HLA Class I molecules for an effective engagement of cytotoxic CD8+ lymphocytes and subsequent elimination of the cancerous cell. This study evaluated the binding affinity and immunogenicity of HLA Class I to melanoma tumor antigens to identify alleles best suited to facilitate elimination of melanoma antigens.

Unambiguous Characterization of Commercial Natural (Dihydro)phenanthrene Compounds Is Vital in the Discovery of AMPK Activators.

These days, easy access to commercially available (poly)phenolic compounds has expanded the scope of potential research beyond the field of chemistry, particularly in the area of their bioactivity. However, the quality of these compounds is often overlooked or not even considered. This issue is illustrated in this study through the example of (dihydro)phenanthrenes, a group of natural products present in yams, as AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activators.

Play Well Triple P: Developing and Evaluating a Program to Promote Positive Parental Involvement in Junior Sport.

Parents play a central role in children's ongoing participation and enjoyment of sport. Despite compelling evidence that parental behaviour can undermine the quality of children's experiences in sport, little research has examined whether strategies to support parents to engage in positive sports parenting behaviour are effective. In this paper, we report two studies that had the overall aim of developing, implementing and evaluating a program designed to promote positive parental involvement and improve spectator behaviour in junior rugby league in Australia.

Leveraging Triphenylphosphine-Containing Polymers to Explore Design Principles for Protein-Mimetic Catalysts.

Complex interactions between noncoordinating residues are significant yet commonly overlooked components of macromolecular catalyst function. Child Maltreatment (CM) is a widespread public health problem, with adverse outcomes for children, families, and communities. Evidence-based parenting support delivered via a public health approach may be an effective means to prevent CM. The Every Family 2 population trial applied a public health approach to delivering evidence-based parenting support to prevent CM in disadvantaged communities.

Paediatric cerebellar glioblastoma - long-term survival following surgery and adjuvant chemoradiotherapy: A case report and literature review.

Introduction: Paediatric cerebellar glioblastoma is an exceptionally rare clinical entity, with very few cases described in the literature. In the majority of reported cases, prognosis is extremely poor, despite surgical and oncological management. The paucity of data results in lack of consensus as to the optimal management of these patients, with the objective of prolonging survival.

Supporting Families Affected by Adversity: An Open Feasibility Trial of Family Life Skills Triple P.

This pilot feasibility study examined the effects of a new trauma-informed parenting program, Family Life Skills Triple P (FLSTP), in an open uncontrolled trial conducted in a regular service delivery context via video conferencing. FLSTP was trialed as a group-delivered 10-session intervention. Program modules target positive parenting skills (4 sessions) and adult life skills including coping with emotions, taking care of relationships, self-care, dealing with the past, healthy living, and planning for the future.

The role of parenting self-efficacy on teacher-child relationships and parent-teacher communication: Evidence from an Australian national longitudinal study.

High-quality teacher-child relationships and parent-teacher communications have substantial benefits to children's well-being and school functioning. However, more research is needed to understand how parenting self-efficacy influences these relationships. This cross-sequential study investigated the direct associations of parenting self-efficacy with the teacher-child relationship and parent-teacher communication, as well as potential mediation pathways.

Piloting a one-day parent-only intervention in the treatment of youth with anxiety disorders: child and family-level outcomes.

Objective: Parent-only cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) interventions have promise for youth with anxiety disorders. Fear-Less Triple P (FLTP) is one such intervention that has been found comparable to child-focused CBT. Fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy (FCCS) measures diffusion and molecular interactions at nanomolar concentration in biological systems. We have developed an economical method to simultaneously monitor diffusion and complexation with the use of super-continuum laser and spectral deconvolution from a single detector.

The Triple P System of Evidence-Based Parenting Support: Past, Present, and Future Directions.

Triple P is an integrated, multi-level system of evidence-based parenting support designed to promote the well-being of children and families to reduce prevalence rates of social, emotional, and behavioral problems in children and adolescents and to prevent child maltreatment. The system developed gradually over four decades to address the complex needs of parents and children from diverse family, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. It blends universal and targeted programs, a focus on developing parental self-regulation capabilities, and adopts a life span perspective with a population health framework.

Background: To bring evidence-based interventions (EBIs) to individuals with behavioral health needs, psychosocial interventions must be delivered at scale. Despite an increasing effort to implement effective treatments in communities, most individuals with mental health and behavioral problems do not receive EBIs. We posit that organizations that commercialize EBIs play an important role in disseminating EBIs, particularly in the USA.

The Change of Practitioner's Self-Efficacy in Triple P Professional Training: Moderating Role of Practitioner Characteristics, Country, and Delivery Mode.

Two studies examined the change in self-efficacy of practitioners after attending Triple P training and the moderators that affect training outcomes. Study 1 used a large multidisciplinary sample of health, education, and welfare practitioners ( = 37,235) came from 30 countries around the world, which all participate in a Triple P professional training course during 2012-2019. This study assessed practitioners' overall self-efficacy and their consultation skills efficacy prior to training, immediately following training, and at six- to eight-weeks follow-up.
