Background: Current communication techniques among different types of health professionals are often inefficient and ineffective, leading to provider frustration and suboptimal patient care that can have community-wide implications. Oral health care providers (OHCPs) in the United States prescribe high numbers of antibiotics and immediate-release opioids and have practice sites that are physically isolated from those of other health professionals, making communication more challenging.
Objective: This study was conducted to identify barriers to effective communication between community pharmacists and OHCPs to inform the processes for improving provider education and the methods for training future pharmacists.
A strategy for creating potent and pan-genotypic stimulator of interferon genes (STING) agonists is described. Locking a bioactive U-shaped conformation of cyclic dinucleotides by introducing a transannular macrocyclic bridge between the nucleic acid bases leads to a topologically novel macrocycle-bridged STING agonist (MBSA). In addition to substantially enhanced potency, the newly designed MBSAs, exemplified by clinical candidate E7766, exhibit broad pan-genotypic activity in all major human STING variants.

Methods: Patients were 4126 adults aged ≥50 years with a MOF (1657 hip, 1354 distal forearm, 681 vertebral, 434 humerus) from the International Costs and Utilities Related to Osteoporotic fractures Study (Australia, Austria, Estonia, France, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Russia, Spain and the UK). HRQoL (pre-fracture and 12-months post-fracture) was measured using the EQ-5D-3L.
Objective: Forming and maintaining romantic relationships is an important developmental task in adolescence and young adulthood. This scoping review seeks to explore how young people with long-term physical health conditions understand and experience romantic relationships.
Methods: Using Arksey and O'Malley's scoping review framework, a systematic search of five databases was conducted (PsychINFO, Cinahl, MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science).
Synergistic effects of bacteria on viral stability and transmission are widely documented but remain unclear in the context of SARS-CoV-2. We collected 972 samples from hospitalized ICU patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), their health care providers, and hospital surfaces before, during, and after admission. We screened for SARS-CoV-2 using RT-qPCR, characterized microbial communities using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, and contextualized the massive microbial diversity in this dataset in a meta-analysis of over 20,000 samples.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver cancer and can arise from any form of chronic liver disease or cirrhosis. With increasing rates of metabolic syndrome and obesity, it is not surprising that NASH is quickly becoming a leading cause of chronic liver disease and HCC in the western hemisphere (Wang and Malhi, 2018). View Article and Find Full Text PDFA mysterious feature of Crohn's disease (CD) is the extra-intestinal manifestation of "creeping fat" (CrF), defined as expansion of mesenteric adipose tissue around the inflamed and fibrotic intestine. In the current study, we explore whether microbial translocation in CD serves as a central cue for CrF development. We discovered a subset of mucosal-associated gut bacteria that consistently translocated and remained viable in CrF in CD ileal surgical resections, and identified Clostridium innocuum as a signature of this consortium with strain variation between mucosal and adipose isolates, suggesting preference for lipid-rich environments.

Problem-solving skills were needed to continue the level of WOC nursing services expected by patients, families, and professional colleagues, while reducing the hours we were physically present at our clinical facility. However, a comprehensive understanding of how infections with pathogens that exhibit distinct capability to spread and/or persist differentially change the microbiome, the underlying mechanisms, and the relative contribution of individual commensal species to immune cell adaptations is still lacking. Here, we discovered that mouse infection with a fast-spreading and persistent (but not a slow-spreading acute) isolate of lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus induced large-scale microbiome shifts characterized by increased Verrucomicrobia and reduced Firmicute/Bacteroidetes ratio.

Slipping rib syndrome (SRS) is an often unrecognized cause of lower chest and upper abdominal pain in children and adolescents. Surgical resection of the cartilaginous portions of the slipping rib often provides permanent pain relief, with the standard surgical approach being an open resection. A minimally invasive approach has not been reported previously; we report a novel laparoscopic technique for the treatment of SRS with satisfactory results.
