Comparison of self-perceived oral symptoms and periodontal parameters among habitual shamma-chewers, gutka-chewers, and non-chewers.

Objective: There are no studies that have (a) compared self-perceived oral symptoms and clinical and radiographic periodontal parameters (plaque index [PI], bleeding on probing [BoP], clinical attachment loss [CAL], and marginal bone loss [MBL]) among shamma-chewers (SC) and gutka-chewers (GC); and (b) assessed periodontal parameters among SC. The aim of the present study was to compare the self-perceived oral symptoms and periodontal parameters among SC, GC, and controls.

Method And Materials: Information regarding demographic characteristics and self-perceived oral symptoms was gathered using a structured questionnaire.

Is mechanical curettage with adjunct photodynamic therapy more effective in the treatment of peri-implantitis than mechanical curettage alone?

Background: The aim of the present study was to review the pertinent literature on the effects of mechanical curettage (MC) with and without adjunct photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the management of peri-implantitis.

Methods: The addressed focused question was "Is PDT effective in the treatment of peri-implantitis?" A search without language or time restrictions up to March 2016 was conducted using various key words. The exclusion criteria included; review papers, in vitro Studies, case reports, commentaries, interviews, and letters to the editors.

Dental caries and its relationship to malocclusion in permanent dentition among 12-15 year old school going children.

Background: This study aimed to know the prevalence of dental caries among children having malocclusion.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study included 880 students aged 1215 years, among whom 488 were boys and 392 were girls. A proforma was prepared to record dental caries status and dental esthetic index (DAI) using the WHO Oral Health Assessment Form (1997).
