Mini-Craniotomy for Chronic Subdural Hematoma: A Reliable Surgical Option.

 Chronic subdural hematoma (SDH) is one of the most common conditions encountered in the neurosurgical practice. Surgical modalities like twist drill craniostomy, burr hole evacuation, mini-craniotomy, and craniotomy are practiced in the management of chronic SDH. Mini-craniotomy without excision of membranes may help to achieve best results with decreased complication rate.

Background: Zearalenone (ZEA), a natural food contaminant, is reported to act as a mycoestrogen due to its estrogen-mimicking properties. According to studies, ZEA has a greater potential for estrogenic activity compared to any other naturally occurring non-steroidal estrogen. ZEA has been found in the endometrium of individuals with reproductive problems and the serum of children facing early puberty.

Neuron navigators: A novel frontier with physiological and pathological implications.

Neuron navigators are microtubule plus-end tracking proteins containing basic and serine rich regions which are encoded by neuron navigator genes (NAVs). Neuron navigator proteins are essential for neurite outgrowth, neuronal migration, and overall neurodevelopment along with some other functions as well. The navigator proteins are substantially expressed in the developing brain and have been reported to be differentially expressed in various tissues at different ages.

Hidden appendix: A case report and literature review of perforated acute appendicitis masquerading as acute cholecystitis.

Introduction: Acute appendicitis of the subhepatic appendix is uncommon, and a preoperative diagnosis is difficult without a thorough understanding of the various anatomical locations. Cross-sectional imaging is indispensable for prompt diagnosis and subsequent treatment. Surgery is the standard treatment for perforated appendicitis in the subhepatic region.

Ketamine infusion as a sedative-analgesic in severe ARDS (KISS).

Rationale: Ketamine has been used as a sedative analgesic in trauma setting, but data regarding its efficacy and safety is lacking in severe ARDS. This retrospective study aims to determine if Ketamine is safer as a sedative agent in mechanically ventilated patients. Single Image Super-Resolution Using a Joint GMM Method.

Single image super-resolution (SR) algorithms based on joint dictionaries and sparse representations of image patches have received significant attention in the literature and deliver the state-of-the-art results. Recently, Gaussian mixture models (GMMs) have emerged as favored prior for natural image patches in various image restoration problems. In this paper, we approach the single image SR problem by using a joint GMM learnt from concatenated vectors of high and low resolution patches sampled from a large database of pairs of high resolution and the corresponding low resolution images.

Leaching Behavior of Selected Trace and Toxic Metals in Coal Fly Ash Samples Collected from Two Thermal Power Plants, India.

Studies on leaching behavior of metals associated with coal fly ash (FA) are of great concern because of possible contamination of the aquatic environment. In the present study, leaching behavior of metals (As, Se, Cr, Pb, V, Zn, etc.) in two different FA samples (FA1 and FA2) was investigated at various pH (2-12), temperatures of leachate solution and using TCLP.

Anagen effluvium is a known side effect of many immunosuppressive drugs. Rarely matting of hair has been reported following azathioprine.

The reports of glomerular lesions of kidney due to tuberculosis are sparse. A 48-year-old gentleman, presented with swelling of feet of 3 months duration. As he had renal impairment, proteinuria and normal-sized kidneys, he was subjected to renal biopsy.

Renal infarction due to lupus vasculopathy.

In the ISN/RPS 2003 classification of lupus nephritis (LN) renal vascular lesions are not mentioned. We present a patient with postpartum lupus vasculopathy. The renal biopsy in our patient showed concentric intimal thickening with narrowed lumen.

Clear cell chondrosarcoma calcaneum - a case report and review of literature.

Chondrosarcoma is the second most common primary bone malignancy accounting for 20-25% of all bone sarcomas. However chondrosarcoma of the foot is rare with just a handful of cases being described. Among the subtypes clear cell variant is the rarest and has never been documented in the foot.

Bleeding ureter: endometriosis mascarading as a ureteral malignancy - a case report.

Ureteral endometriosis is a serious localization of disease burden that can lead to urinary tract obstruction, with subsequent hydroureter, hydronephrosis, and potential kidney loss. Atenolol and amlodipine combination overdose managed with continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration: A case report.

We present a patient of who ingested large dose of of atenolol and amlodipine and was treated successfully with continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration. Early recognition of indications for renal support and early initiation of the same is the key to successful management.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome with PLEDs-plus due to mesalamine.

A 32-year-old lady developed status epilepticus and acute visual loss while on mesalamine for Crohn's disease. Her clinical course and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were suggestive of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES). She had periodic lateralized epileptiform discharges plus (PLEDs-plus) on electroencephalogram (EEG), which responded to sodium valproate.
