Background: Superior Vena Cava (SVC) diameter and collapsibility index, dynamic measures of fluid responsiveness, have been successfully utilized as echocardiographic indices for fluid responsiveness in ventilated septic patients. Whether these measurements are correlated with Central Venous Pressure (CVP) measurements in liver transplant patients is unknown. We sought to assess the correlation of maximum and minimum SVC diameter and SVC collapsibility index measurements obtained intraoperatively by Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) with those of simultaneously recorded CVP measurements obtained through a right atrial port of a pulmonary artery catheter.

Perioperative dysglycemia is associated with adverse outcomes in both cardiac and non-cardiac surgical patients. Hyperglycemia in the perioperative period is associated with an increased risk of postoperative infections, length of stay, and mortality. Hypoglycemia can induce neuronal damage, leading to significant cognitive deficits, as well as death.

Glucose control in patient admitted to the intensive care unit has been a topic of much debate over the past 20 years. The harmful effects of uncontrolled hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia in critically ill patients is well established. Background: Catheter-based endovascular neurointerventions require deep neuromuscular blocks during the procedure and rapid subsequent recovery of strength to facilitate neurological evaluation. A retrospective cohort analysis was performed on 79 consecutive patients between 6 months and 5 years admitted to a tertiary hospital with a diagnosis of complex febrile seizures requiring mechanical ventilation from 2011 to 2017 to determine the utility of infectious and neurologic diagnostics. Intubation was used as a proxy for severity of illness. The overall intensive care unit stay was short (95% intubated <24 hours, 88% admitted <3 days).

Background: The Hypotension Prediction Index is a commercially available algorithm, based on arterial waveform features, that predicts hypotension defined as mean arterial pressure less than 65 mmHg for at least 1 min.
