Background: The aims of this study were to understand the incidence and outcomes of patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) due to severe aortic stenosis (AS), and the impact of conventional treatment strategies in this population.
Methods And Results: All patients admitted to the Cleveland Clinic cardiac intensive care unit between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2021 with CS were retrospectively identified and categorized into those with CS in the setting of severe AS versus CS without AS. The impact of various treatment strategies on mortality was further assessed.
Purpose: Our understanding of hemodynamics in cirrhotic patients with sepsis remains limited. Our study aims to investigate differences in hemodynamic profiles using echocardiography between septic patients with and without cirrhosis.
Materials And Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective study of septic patients with echocardiogram within 3 days of ICU admission.

Background: Tissue Doppler-derived left ventricular systolic velocity (mitral S') has shown excellent correlation to left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in non-critically patients. However, their correlation in septic patients remains poorly understood and its impact on mortality is undetermined. We investigated the relationship between mitral S' and LVEF in a large cohort of critically-ill septic patients.

We examined the impact of new and previous PPM on the clinical and hemodynamic outcomes after SAPIEN-3 TAVI. We included all consecutive patients who underwent transfemoral TAVI using SAPIEN-3 valve from 2015 to 2018 at our institution.

Aims: Hyperglycaemia has been an established predictor of poor outcomes in critically ill patients. The aim of this study is to assess the pattern of early glycemic control in patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) on temporary mechanical circulatory support (MCS) and its impact on short-term outcomes.
Methods And Results: All adult patients admitted to the Cleveland clinic cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) between 2015 and 2019 with CS necessitating MCS with intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), Impella or venous arterial- extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (VA- ECMO) exclusively for CS were retrospectively analyzed.

Background: Prevention of stroke by anticoagulation is essential in patients with Atrial fibrillation (AF); with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) being preferred over warfarin in most patients. The Long-term efficacy and safety of DOACs vs. Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) remain unknown.

Research Question: Is LV systolic dysfunction associated with increased mortality among patients with sepsis and septic shock?
Study Design And Methods: Retrospective cohort study comprising all adult patients admitted to the medical ICU from January 1, 2011, through December 31, 2020, with sepsis and septic shock as defined by the Third International Consensus Definitions for Sepsis and Septic Shock guidelines.
Purpose Of Review: To review myocarditis and pericarditis developing after COVID-19 vaccinations and identify the management strategies.
Recent Findings: COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are safe and effective. Systemic side effects of the vaccines are usually mild and transient.
Background: New-onset left bundle branch block (LBBB) can develop after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) resulting in worse outcomes.
Aims: Describe clinical and echocardiographic outcomes with new-onset LBBB after TAVR.
Methods: We included consecutive patients who underwent transfemoral-TAVR with SAPIEN-3 (S3) valve between April 2015 and December 2018.
There are limited data regarding the impact of mitral annular calcium (MAC) on the outcomes of patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). We performed a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent TAVI in 2018 and divided them into 2 groups based on the presence or absence of MAC, using a validated MAC computed tomography-based scoring system. Among 468 patients who underwent TAVI in 2018, 271 patients (58%) had MAC present compared with 197 patients (42%) without MAC.

Cardiovascular thromboembolism (CTE) is another complication that is relatively rare yet catastrophic. We present two cases of COVID-19 which were complicated by CTE.

However, the impact of elevated FP as detected by pretranscatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) echocardiogram on long-term outcomes after TAVR remains unclear.
Objective: To understand the impact of elevated FP in patients with severe AS who undergo TAVR.

Background: Catheter ablation is an effective treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF), primarily performed in patients who fail antiarrhythmic drugs. Whether early catheter ablation, as first-line therapy, is associated with improved clinical outcomes remains unclear.
Methods: Electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Embase) were searched until March 28th, 2021.
Background: Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death among kidney transplant (KT) recipients. Trials routinely exclude patients with end-stage renal disease when assessing the effect of coronary artery revascularization. We looked to compare long-term outcomes in patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) before KT with those managed medically.

Severe cases usually present with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), pneumonia, acute kidney injury (AKI), liver damage, or septic shock. However, with recent advances in severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) research, the virus´s effect on cardiac tissues has become evident.

We performed a retrospective analysis of patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis (AS) who underwent transfemoral TAVI with a SAPIEN 3 valve at our institution between April 2015 and December 2018. We identified 32 consecutive patients with evidence of cirrhosis of the liver on imaging (including ultrasound and/or computed tomography) and patients with severe symptomatic AS who underwent transfemoral TAVI with a SAPIEN 3 valve.

We retrospectively reviewed 839 patients with newly diagnosed MM between 2010 and 2015 at Cleveland Clinic and included 575 patients in final analysis to validate this score. The c-statistic of the IMPEDE VTE score to predict VTE within 6 months of treatment start was 0·68 (95% CI: 0·61-0·75).
