Polarizing white light interferometry for phase measurements using two simultaneous interferograms.

Our research introduces a design for a polarization phase-shifting white light interferometric system (PPS-WLIS) that operates in a transmissive mode for measuring the slope phase of transparent objects. It comprises a cyclic path interferometer (lateral shear interferometer) coupled with a multiplexing Michelson interferometer. The system uses polarization to produce two parallel interferograms with polarization modulated with relative shifts simultaneously.

Effects of Local Use of Insulin on Wound Healing in Non-diabetic Patients.

Background: Clinical trials have shown the positive effects of local insulin therapy in the formation of new vessels and fibrosis in acute and chronic diabetic wounds without major adverse effects.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of local insulin use on wound healing in non-diabetic patients.

Methods: A randomized, split-plot, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted.

Oral mucosa: an alternative epidermic cell source to develop autologous dermal-epidermal substitutes from diabetic subjects.

Objective: The aim of this study was to obtain autologous dermal-epidermal skin substitutes from oral mucosa from diabetic subjects as a first step towards a possible clinical application for cases of diabetic foot.

Material And Methods: Oral mucosa was obtained from diabetic and healthy subjects (n=20 per group). Epidermal cells were isolated and cultured using autologous fibrin to develop dermal-epidermal in vitro substitutes by the air-liquid technique with autologous human serum as a supplement media.

On May 6, 2012, an 18-year-old patient was admitted to the emergency room with sever traumatic brain injury and cardiovascular arrest; resuscitation maneuvers were started with a compressor table AUTOPULSE®. After 30 minutes, death was pronounced. Later, compressions were restarted.

Background: Clinical trials have shown the effectiveness of systemic and local insulin therapy in improving wound healing. Diabetic wounds remain a challenge for healthcare providers. Impaired angiogenesis and reduced granulation tissue formation contribute to inadequate wound healing.

Numerical-experimental study of internal fixation system "Dufoo" for vertebral fractures.

Background: We describe a numerical experimental study of the stress generated by the internal fixation system "Dufoo" used in the treatment of vertebral fractures with the purpose of validating the numerical model of human lumbar vertebrae under the main physiological loads that the human body is exposed to in this area. The objective is to model and numerically simulate the elements of the musculoskeletal system to collect the stresses generated and other parameters that are difficult to measure experimentally in the thoracic lumbar vertebrae.

Methods: We used an internal fixator "Dufoo" and vertebrae L2-L3-L4 specimens from pig and human.

Experience with a new design of endoretractor for gasless laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Background: Cholecystectomy has replaced open surgery and is regarded as the standard procedure today. The pneumoperitoneum needed to create working space can induce cardiovascular changes. Gasless laparoscopic surgery is effective; we evaluate a new retractor design.

[Program of organ and tissue donation in subjects with cerebral death in the State of San Luis Potosí between 1999-2002. Legal implications and study results].

Introduction: The transplantation program of organs obtained from deceased donors requires a complex structural organization. Medical, logistic, and cultural aspects must be taken into account.

Material And Methods: We analyzed the detection of possible organ donors in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, from August 21, 1999 to August 30, 2002.

Background: The abdomen ranks in third place of body areas injured by trauma. Evaluation and stabilization of these patients form the cornerstone in emergency medicine. Diagnostic approach and treatment outcome are influenced by several factors.

[IgA nephropathy (Berger's disease) in children].

IgA nephropathy, also called Berger's disease, is characterized by recurrent gross hematuria or persistent microscopic hematuria, together with mesangial glomerular deposits of IgA found in the renal biopsy. Seven children with IgA nephropathy were studied. Most of them presented initially with recurrent macroscopic hematuria and low or moderate-grade proteinuria, without hypertension or renal function impairment.
