The European Union Radiation, Education, Staffing & Training (EU-REST) study was a European Commission-funded, 24-month project that analysed workforce availability, education and training needs to ensure quality and safety aspects of medical applications involving ionising radiation in the EU and developed staffing and education/training guidelines for key professional groups involved in ensuring radiation safety and quality of medical radiation applications in the EU Member States. This article outlines the origin, development, goals and overall structure of the project. CRITICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: This article provides a concise overview of the EU-REST project, which analysed the workforce availability of health professionals involved in the use of ionising radiation for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and the corresponding education and training in radiation protection.

Towards Validation of Clinical Measures to Discriminate Between Nociceptive, Neuropathic and Nociplastic Pain: Cluster Analysis of a Cohort with Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain.

Objectives: The International Association for the Study of Pain defines three pain types presumed to involve different mechanisms - nociceptive, neuropathic and nociplastic. Based on the hypothesis that pain types should guide matching of patients with treatments, work has been undertaken to identify features to discriminate between them for clinical use. This study aimed to evaluate the validity of features to discriminate between pain types.

Despite advances in cancer treatment, the development of effective therapies remains an urgent unmet need. Here, we investigate the potential of bacteria-derived metabolites as a therapeutic alternative for the treatment of cancer. We detect 3-hydroxydodecanedioic acid in the serum of tumor-bearing mice treated with serum from mice previously supplemented with a mix of Clostridiales bacteria.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyse the 50 most cited publications on trochleoplasty (TP), examine their bibliographic parameters and evaluate the correlations between citation count, methodological quality and other factors.

Methods: In a comprehensive literature search on the Web of Science, the 50 most cited studies on TP were identified. These studies were then evaluated according to their bibliographic parameters, level of evidence (LOE), citation counts, the Modified Coleman Methodological Score (MCMS), the Methodological Index for Non‑Randomised Studies (MINORS) and the Radiologic Methodology and Quality Scale (MQCSRE).

Factors associated with short- and medium-term mortality after hospitalization for COPD exacerbation.

Objective: Hospitalization due to exacerbation is a critical event for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study aimed to identify predictive factors for mortality in patients post-hospitalization for COPD exacerbation and to determine differences in these predictors in the short and medium term.

Methods: A prospective observational study involving 1635 patients hospitalized for COPD exacerbation, followed for one year.

Crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and reaching intracranial tumours is a clinical challenge for current targeted interventions including antibody-based therapies, contributing to poor patient outcomes. Increased cell surface density of human epidermal growth factor receptor 3 (HER3) is associated with a growing number of metastatic tumour types and is observed on tumour cells that acquire resistance to a growing number of clinical targeted therapies. Here we describe the evaluation of HER3-homing nanobiological particles (nanobioparticles (NBPs)) on such tumours in preclinical models and our discovery that systemic NBPs could be found in the brain even in the absence of such tumours.

Introduction: Differences in adaptive strategies used by individuals and families living with dementia have the potential to impact day-to-day well-being. The Living Well Inventory for Dementia (LWI-D) is a new measure to capture these strategies and to illuminate new options to support families living with dementia. The Quality of Day Scale (QODS) is a new measure to capture global well-being in persons based on a shorter temporal frame than traditional quality of life measures.

High burden of disease in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia despite recent advances in therapies and updated guidelines: A real-world study.

Background: Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is an ultra-rare disorder of lipid metabolism characterized by markedly increased levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), leading to an increased risk of early onset atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and premature death.

Objective: To assess the real-world burden of disease for patients with HoFH using healthcare claims data.

Methods: Due to the lack of International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision diagnosis codes for HoFH, the real-world HoFH cohort was formed using two sources: prescription claims for evinacumab or lomitapide in the Komodo Healthcare Map™ database; and patients with a physician-confirmed HoFH diagnosis in MyRARE, a US-based patient support program for commercially available evinacumab.

Sinonasal inverted papilloma (IP) often appears as a unilateral sinonasal soft-tissue mass with varying enhancement, often accompanied by bone remodelling, intralesional calcifications, focal hyperostosis, and cone-shaped bone thickening (observed in 60 to 80% of cases) (1,2). A non-contrast sinonasal CT scan may reveal a soft tissue polypoid mass that closely resembles inflammatory polyps (Figure 1 A-D). While hyperostosis is recognized as a marker of the tumor's point of origin (1), intralesional calcifications are less frequently described but may offer valuable insights.
