Introduction: Pertussis remains among the top ten most common fatal aetiologies of acute respiratory infections worldwide. This study reports findings from the first laboratory-confirmed pertussis outbreak among primary schoolchildren in Burkina Faso.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted during an outbreak in the districts of Sabou and Sapouy following an alert from the national surveillance system.

There is merit in investigating novel therapeutic molecules that hit vital targets during the viral infection cycle disrupting the interaction between SARS-CoV-2's spike glycoprotein and the host's angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor, potentially offering new avenues for treatment. Accordingly, lipid-based vesicular systems like liposomes or niosomes are frequently utilized to overcome these hurdles. Thus, chemically synthesized compounds were encapsulated within PEGylated bilosomes (PBs) to improve their solubility and intestinal permeability, thereby enhancing their anti-SARS-CoV-2 effectiveness.

The toxicity of organic molecules and transition metal cations imposes their removal from aqueous medium to protect human health. Traditionally, systems have been designed to target either organic molecules or transition metal cations individually. However, a homogenous poly(chitosan-N-vinylcaprolactam-methacrylic acid) P(CVM) microgel system has been introduced to effectively eliminate both types of pollutants.

In this work, additional effort was applied to design new BIBR1532-based analogues with potential inhibitory activity against telomerase and acting as multitarget antitumor candidates to overcome the resistance problem. Therefore, novel substituted N-phenyl-2-((6-phenylpyridazin-3-yl)thio)acetamide candidates (4a-n) were synthesized. Applying the lead optimization strategy of the previously designed compound 8e; compound 4l showed an improved telomerase inhibition of 64.

Conversion of toxic nitroarenes into less toxic aryl amines, which are the most suitable precursors for different types of compounds, is done with various materials which are costly or take more time for this conversion. In this regards, a silica@poly(chitosan-N-isopropylacrylamide-methacrylic acid) Si@P(CS-NIPAM-MAA) Si@P(CNM) core-shell microgel system was synthesized through free radical precipitation polymerization (FRPP) and then fabricated with palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) by in situ-reduction method to form Si@Pd-P(CNM) and characterized with XRD, TEM, FTIR, SEM, and EDX. The catalytic efficiency of Si@Pd-P(CNM) hybrid microgels was studied for reduction of 4-nitroaniline (4NiA) under diverse conditions.

Most of the transition metal ions and organic dyes are toxic in nature. Therefore, their removal from water is imperative for human health. For this purpose, various types of systems have been developed to tackle either transition metal ions or organic dyes individually.

In keeping with our investigation, a simple and practical synthesis of novel heterocyclic compounds with a sulfamoyl moiety that can be employed as insecticidal agents was reported. The compound 2-hydrazinyl--(4-sulfamoylphenyl)-2-thioxoacetamide was coupled smoothly with triethylorthoformate or a variety of halo compounds, namely phenacyl chloride, chloroacetyl chloride, chloroacetaldehyde, chloroacetone, 1,3-dichloropropane, 1,2-dichloroethane, ethyl chloroformate, 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone, and chloroanil respectively, which afforded the 1,3,4-thiadiazole and 1,3,4-thiadiazine derivatives. The new products structure was determined using elemental and spectral analysis.

Carbon materials technology provides the possibility of synthesizing low-cost, outstanding performance replacements to noble-metal catalysts for long-term use. Graphdiyne (GDY) is a carbon allotrope with an extremely thin atomic thickness. It consists of carbon elements, that are hybridized with both sp.

This study describes the synthesis, theoretical investigations, and photocatalytic degradational properties of a new (pyrazine)(meso-tetrakis(4-tert-methoxyphenyl)-porphyrinato)-cadmium (II) ([Cd(TMPP)-Pyz]) complex (). The new penta-coordinated Cd porphyrin complex () was characterized by various spectroscopic techniques, including FT-IR, NMR, UV-visible absorption, fluorescence emission, and singlet oxygen, while its molecular structure was studied using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The UV-Vis spectroscopic study highlighted the redshift of the absorption bands after the insertion of the Cd(II) metal ion into the TMPP ring.

Background: In 2010, influenza, influenza-like illness (ILI) and acute respiratory infection (ARI) surveillance was established by the government of Burkina Faso. We provide preliminary descriptive results from this surveillance activity.

Methods: The study period was 2013 through 2015.

Purpose: High rates of early colorectal cancers (CRC) are observed in Tunisia suggesting genetic susceptibility. Nevertheless, up to now, no molecular study has been performed in the Tunisian population. In our research, we evaluated the clinical characteristics of Tunisian families suspected of Lynch syndrome and the contribution of DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes.

Ribonuclease P (RNase P) is an essential enzyme that processes the 5' leader sequence of precursor tRNA. Eubacterial RNase P is an RNA enzyme, while its eukaryotic counterpart acts as catalytic ribonucleoprotein, consisting of RNA and numerous protein subunits. To study the latter form, we reconstitute human RNase P activity, demonstrating that the subunits H1 RNA, Rpp21, and Rpp29 are sufficient for 5' cleavage of precursor tRNA.
