Objective: This study was designed to investigate the relationship between eosinophil count and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the correlation between eosinophil count and the risk of exacerbations in COPD.

Patients And Methods: The study included 405 patients who met the study inclusion criteria. Of the participants, 100 (25%) were classified as Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) A, 105 (26%) as GOLD B, and 200 (49%) as GOLD E.

Article Synopsis
  • Immunoglobulin M (IgM) multiple myeloma (MM) is a rare condition that needs to be differentiated from other similar diseases, such as Waldenström macroglobulinemia, for effective treatment.
  • The study involved analyzing genomic and transcriptomic data of IgM-MM samples through whole-genome and transcriptome sequencing, revealing shared characteristics with MM, but unique features like specific chromosomal translocations and deletions.
  • Findings indicated that IgM-MM likely originates before the germinal center stage, highlighted by unique molecular signatures and elevated expression of potential therapeutic targets, such as CD20 and Bruton tyrosine kinase.

Article Synopsis
  • The bone marrow (BM) microenvironment is crucial for the development of multiple myeloma (MM), making therapies targeting both cancer cells and their environment effective.
  • Recent findings show that mutations in the Roundabout 1 (ROBO1) receptor are common in MM patients, but their role wasn't clear until this study.
  • The research reveals that ROBO1 is essential for MM cell adhesion to BM cells, affects tumor growth, and suggests it may have a role in RNA processing, which warrants further investigation.

Introduction: An increase in the incidence of OSAS (obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome) has been seen due to the reported association between OSAS and obesity. Subjects are predisposed to cardiovascular disease due to systemic inflammation caused by the interactions between obesity and OSA. Inflammatory markers could be used to predict the degree of systemic inflammation, which could be a prognostic factor for future adverse events such as metabolic risks.

Introduction: To the best of our knowledge, no previous study regarding the serum telomerase levels in Maras powder users (MPUs) has been founded. The aim of the current study was to investigate serum telomerase levels in smokers and MPUs.

Materials And Methods: The study was carried out with 98 patients (36 MPUs, 32 smokers and 30 non-smokers).

Introduction: Severe obstructive sleep apnea is associated with increased QT corrected interval dispersion and continuous positive airway pressure is thought to improve this arrhythmogenic marker.

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the decrease of ratio of cardiovascular risk in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.

Methods: The study included 65 patients with severe obstructive sleep apnea who had an apnea-hypopnea index score of >30.

Background: Microalbuminuria, used as a marker of endothelial dysfunction, is a predictor of mortality for any reason and of cardiovascular events. Recent research on the management of COPD has focused more on comorbidities, including cardiovascular events. The objective of this study was to investigate the incidence of microalbuminuria and whether it is associated with physiological and clinical features in a subject group that was classified in line with the new version of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease stages.

Background: Gamma-glutamyl transferase (gamma-GT) is an enzyme present in the cell membranes, which is used as a new biomarker in prediction of inflammation, myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiac death. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum levels of gamma-GT and cardiovascular disease in subjects with COPD and the correlation between serum gamma-GT level and degree of the limitation of air flow in COPD.

Methods: A total of 70 subjects (46.

Aim: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a common disorder and in subjects with OSAS the prevalence of hypothyroidism is approximately 1.2-11 %. The episodes of hypoxia/reoxygenation associated with the respiratory disturbances observed in subjects with OSAS increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Aims: The hemoglobin HbA1C (HbA1C) value, translated into estimated average glucose concentration (eAG), is commonly used to assess glycaemic control and manage treatment regimens in people with diabetes. However, the relationships among HbA1C-derived eAG, and mean glucose concentration derived from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in different populations have not been well studied. We examined this relationship in older people with diabetes and compared the results to those currently used in clinical practice.

Purpose: The aims of this study are to identify factors predicting mortality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission and to examine whether noninvasive ventilation treatment reduces mortality.

Materials And Methods: An analysis was performed on data from patients with CAP hospitalized in the ICUs of 19 different hospitals in Turkey between October 2008 and January 2011. Predictors of mortality were assessed by both univariate and multivariate statistical analyses.

Background: Severe community-acquired pneumonia (SCAP) is a fatal disease. This study was conducted to describe an outcome analysis of the intensive care units (ICUs) of Turkey.

Methods: This study evaluated SCAP cases hospitalized in the ICUs of 19 different hospitals between October 2008 and January 2011.

Convulsions are one of the frequently seen problems for a neurologist in the daily routine. It is difficult to distinguish the seizure from pseudo-seizure because of lack of conclusive tests. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between seizure types and seizure periods by studying IMA serum levels in children having seizure.

In a retrospective cross-sectional study among 202 postmenopausal women aged 46-75 years, we aimed to investigate the relationship between body composition and bone mineral density (BMD) to determine whether fat mass or lean mass is a better determinant of BMD in Turkish postmenopausal women. Lumbar spine (L1-L4) and proximal femur BMD were measured by dual energy X-ray absorbsiometry. Body composition analysis was performed by bioelectric impedance method and fat mass, lean mass, and percent fat were measured.
