Retinoblastoma in Ceara: An epidemiological study in a Brazilian pediatric oncology referral center.

Purpose: Although Brazil has a high prevalence of retinoblastoma, there is a lack of epidemiological data on the disease. Thus, in this study, we aimed to evaluate the epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with retinoblastoma in the ophthalmology department of a pediatric tertiary referral hospital in Ceara, Brazil.

Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted by retrospectively analyzing the clinical and socioeconomic data from the medical records of pediatric patients followed-up at the hospital between 2007 and 2021.

Artificial intelligence methods in diagnosis of retinoblastoma based on fundus imaging: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for the detection of retinoblastoma (RB) by fundus image analysis have been proposed as a potentially effective technique to facilitate diagnosis and screening programs. However, doubts remain about the accuracy of the technique, the best type of AI for this situation, and its feasibility for everyday use. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate this issue.

Congenital herpes simplex with ophthalmic and multisystem features: a case report.

Background: Neonatal herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection is rare and has significant morbimortality rates. Approximately 85% of newborns are infected intrapartum, and risk factors for mother-to-child transmission include vaginal delivery, primary maternal infection, and prolonged rupture of membranes. Neonatal HSV can manifest with isolated mucocutaneous lesions, neurological involvement, or disseminated disease.

Hepatitis B, C and HIV co-infections seroprevalence in a northeast Brazilian center.

Context: The occurrence of HIV and hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) virus associations is of great concern since co-infected patients respond poorly to antiviral treatment and usually progress to chronic and more complicated hepatic disease. In Brazil, these co-infections prevalence is not well known since published data are few and sometimes demonstrate conflicting results. Also, a significant number of co-infected individuals are HBV/HCV asymptomatic carriers, leading to under notification.
