Introduction: Operating room fires can have devastating consequences and as such must be prevented. There exists a paucity of literature requiring further elucidation regarding manufacturer recommendations of a predefined waiting period prior to patient draping after using alcohol-based surgical antiseptics, in order to reduce the risk of operating room fires.

Methods: This was further investigated by exposing two common alcohol-based surgical antiseptics to electrosurgery and open flames at various power settings and time intervals in an ex vivo porcine model.

Castleman disease (CD) is a rare, benign lymphoproliferative disorder with characteristic histopathological features, but variable aetiology, presentation, treatment and prognosis. It is broadly classified based on its location and histopathological features, with unicentric hyaline vascular disease presenting most commonly. We present a case of primary, unicentric hepatic CD that was incidentally found on imaging and managed with laparoscopic resection.

Background: Endoscopy is performed routinely during bariatric surgery. It is often used for provocative testing and intraluminal inspection during Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RNYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG). The purpose of this study is to update the available literature with information on the current use of robotic assisted surgery (RAS) in the Department of Defense (DoD) compared to the civilian world, and how the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic impacted RAS in the DoD. A total of 9,979 RAS cases between 01st October 2017 and 31st December 2020 were reviewed from every DoD Military Treatment Facility (MTF) that meets our inclusion criteria and employs various models of da Vinci robotic surgical systems (Intuitive Surgical). Background: An increase has been seen in the number of studies of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) that use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as an outcome measure and proxy for healing and integration of the reconstruction graft. Despite this, the MRI appearance of a steady-state graft and how long it takes to achieve such an appearance have not yet been established.

Purpose: For a successful return to sport (RTS) after an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), patients are recommended to attend a comprehensive rehabilitation program, followed by an RTS assessment, that is a combination of tests. The purpose of this study was to predict a successful return to sport using the results of the RTS assessment and self-reported questionnaires at minimum 2 years after ACLR.

Background: No standardized methodology and objective criteria currently exist to accurately and objectively assess tunnel placement and consequent graft orientation in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) through a single imaging modality. Advances in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology have enabled the use of volumetric high spatial and contrast resolution proton density-weighted sequencing, which allows precise delineation of graft orientation, tunnel position, and quantitative assessment of tunnel position relationship to adjacent reproducible anatomic landmarks.

Purpose: To establish an MRI protocol that would provide an accurate alternative to 3-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) for standardized assessment of bone tunnel placement in ACLR, as a component of assessing ACLR outcomes and to assist in presurgical planning for revision ACLR.
