Object: The authors analyzed the factors involved in determining prolonged survival (> or = 24 months) in patients with brain metastases treated by gamma knife surgery (GKS).

Methods: Between 1995 and 2003, a total of 116 patients underwent 167 GKS procedures for brain metastases. There was no special case selection.
