Background: Risk factors for progression of adenovirus (AdV)-associated bronchiolitis (AdV-B) to post-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans (PIBO) are poorly defined. We aimed to investigate this in a multicenter cohort.
Methods: A multicenter hospital-based analysis included children admitted with AdV-B in Jerusalem during 2016-2022.

Andean crops such as quinoa, amaranth, cañihua, beans, maize, and tarwi have gained interest in recent years for being gluten-free and their high nutritional values; they have high protein content with a well-balanced essential amino acids profile, minerals, vitamins, dietary fiber, and antioxidant compounds. During the germination bioprocess, the seed metabolism is reactivated resulting in the catabolism and degradation of macronutrients and some anti-nutritional compounds. Therefore, germination is frequently used to improve nutritional quality, protein digestibility, and availability of certain minerals and vitamins; furthermore, in specific cases, biosynthesis of new bioactive compounds could occur through the activation of secondary metabolic pathways.

In our study, the NY-SAR-35 cancer/testis antigen was targeted to design a novel peptide vaccine using bioinformatics tools, and BALB/c mice were used to evaluate the vaccine's immunological function. This evaluation involved assessing peptide-specific IgG levels in the serum via ELISA and measuring the levels of IFN-γ, IL-4, and granzyme B in the supernatant of cultured splenocytes.

Regarding the stability of extremophilic archaea's proteins in harsh conditions, analyses of unusual features of their proteins are significantly important for their utilization. This research was accomplished to study of archaeal phospholipases' properties and to develop a pioneering method for distinguishing these enzymes from other archaeal enzymes via machine learning algorithms and Chou's pseudo-amino acid composition concept.

Until now, there has been no specific, reliable, and effective treatment to combat the virus and its variants. The current standard tedious PCR-based tests have limitations in terms of sensitivity, specificity, turnaround time, and false negative results.

The objective was to obtain a conjugate between whey protein concentrate (WPC) and non-conventional pectins extracted in acid (acid tomato pectin, ATP) and aqueous medium (water tomato pectin, WTP) from industrialized tomato residues (tomato waste, TW), characterize the conjugates and study their emulsion properties. The Maillard reaction was carried out at 60 °C and 75% relative humidity in blends with 2:1 proportions; 1:1 and 1:2 (m :m ) for 3, 6 and 12 days.

The real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is the gold standard method of diagnosis; however, immune-based assays offer cost-effective, deployable, easy-to-read solutions for diagnosis and surveillance. Here, we present the development, optimization, and testing of an enzyme-linked viral immune capture assay (ELVICA).

Respiratory tract infections (RTIs) are a major public health concern. This study aims to investigate the profiles and epidemiological characteristics of acute RTIs and respiratory pathogens in Palestinian hospitalized patients. Clinical samples from hospitalized patients with symptoms of acute RTIs admitted between January 2011 and December 2016 were referred to the Palestinian Central Public Health Laboratory (PHCL) to identify the causative pathogen.

This study was performed to assess changes over time in the quality of research in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) by examining the level of evidence of published articles. A secondary aim was to determine the relationship of the journal impact factor to these levels of evidence. The four major OMS journals with an impact factor were assessed.

The generation of single stranded DNA plays a key role in selection of DNA aptamers and in other molecular techniques such as DNA sequencing and microarrays. Here we describe three novel methodologies for ssDNA production and amplification. Furthermore, we describe some previously unnoticed aspects of random DNA amplification.

Public health strategies to achieve the WHO's objectives include salt content monitoring, improved nutritional labelling and product reformulation. This study aimed to determine the sodium content in street food (SF), fast foods (FF) and artisanal foods (AF) of the Northwest of Argentina, which is not regulated.

The replacement of corn flour by GB flour increased the density in layer cake batters, while in sponge cake batters the density decreased. The batters were influenced by the increase in the flow properties, the viscoelastic behaviour, and the decrease in the thixotropic properties.

To characterize it further, we investigated the expression profile of nuclear receptors and their respective co-factors in these cell lines. We confirm that in contrast to the triple negative cell line MDA-MB231, the MCF7 and KAIMRC1 are estrogen receptor alpha (ERa) and progesterone receptor alpha (PRa) positive, with significant lower expression of these receptors in KAIMRC1.

It has been listed by the WHO and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) as an important target for vaccine development. While initially the majority of MERS cases were hospital acquired, continued emergence of MERS is attributed to community acquisition, with camels likely being the direct or indirect source.

The aim of this study was to select folate-producing LAB and evaluate their probiotic characteristics in order to obtain a tuber-based food with elevated folate content. Several LAB strains were isolated from a traditional Andean fermented potato product tocosh and cultured in folate-free culture medium.
