: Urine serves as a vital diagnostic fluid, and urine cytology analysis plays a crucial role in identifying urinary system illnesses such as bladder cancer and kidney stones. The Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology establishes a uniform method for diagnosing urinary tract cancer. This study aimed to provide valuable insights that can inform diagnostic strategies related to kidney stones and ultimately improve patient outcomes via the early detection of the cellular changes associated with kidney stones and their relation to kidney function tests.

In patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), collateral circulation aids in sustaining myocardial perfusion and cardiac function. The circle of Vieussens is a rare collateral pathway between the right coronary artery and the left anterior descending artery (LAD) that plays a significant role specifically in patients with chronic total occlusions (CTOs). This article presents a unique case of the circle of Vieussens in a 26-year-old Asian female with a history of Kawasaki disease and CTO of the proximal LAD.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a prevalent form of malignancy that is characterized by high mortality rates and prognosis that remain suboptimal, largely due to treatment resistance mechanisms. Recent studies have implicated cancer stem cells (CSCs), particularly those expressing epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM), in HCC progression and resistance. In the present study, we sought to assess EpCAM expression in HCC patients and its correlation with various clinicopathological parameters.

Despite being a preventable and curable disease, tuberculosis, which mainly affects the lungs, is still a major cause of illness and death worldwide, with more than one million people dying from it each year. The affliction of the tonsils is uncommon, and isolated tonsillar tuberculosis in the absence of active pulmonary disease is an extremely rare condition that requires early and accurate diagnosis to provide proper management. Microscopic examination is one of the gold-standard tools for diagnosing tuberculosis.

Background: Knowledge of monkeypox can be utilized to prevent and control possible new cases of monkeypox. Access to knowledge regarding monkeypox can help the health worker to determine the suspected cases of monkeypox and enhance Ministry of Health (MOH) efforts for good prevention and control of the disease that leads to reduced incidences. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge of and attitude toward monkeypox disease among nurses.

Background: We have developed an algorithmic approach to laparoscopic cholecystectomy, including subtotal cholecystectomy, as a bailout strategy when the Critical View of Safety cannot be safely achieved due to significant inflammation and fibrosis of the hepatocystic triangle.

Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study comparing postoperative outcomes in patients with severe cholecystitis who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy or laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy at St. Joseph's Health Centre from May 2016 to July 2021, as well as against a historical cohort.

Article Synopsis
  • Clostridium difficile (CDI) is a major cause of infections leading to pseudomembranous colitis and diarrhea in hospitalized patients, especially those with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
  • A retrospective study at King Abdulaziz University Hospital analyzed 602 IBD patients to identify risk factors for CDI, focusing on various clinical data from 2009 to 2022.
  • The results showed that 8.8% of IBD patients tested positive for CDI, primarily affecting females and nonsmokers, with significant correlations noted between CDI and factors like recent flare-ups and colonic involvement.

NUT carcinoma (NC) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm associated with a poor prognosis. NC is characterized by a NUTM1- rearrangement on chromosome 15q14, commonly fused with the BRD4 or BRD3 gene . A rare subset of NC defined by fusion of NUTM1 with the MGA gene has been identified, showing mesenchymal differentiation on histology.

Several studies have reported increased glucose transporters (GLUT) expression in different cancer types, including breast cancer. The primary purpose of this study is to examine GLUT1 immunoexpression in breast cancer patients in Saudi Arabia and to determine its significance. The study examined the association between GLUT1 immunophenotype and the clinicopathological characteristics in breast cancer.

Background: Xanthogranuloma of the sellar region is an extremely rare benign entity with only case reports and series documented in the literature. We aim to describe in this report a case of a suprasellar xanthogranuloma that was diagnosed initially as a cystic craniopharyngioma.

Case Description: A 28-year-old woman presented to the clinic with a 2-week history of headaches, blurred vision, nausea, and vomiting.

Unlabelled: Hemophilia A (HA) is an X-linked recessive disorder that results from mutations in the factor VIII gene (FVIII). Most affected patients are males due to the inheritance of mutations in the FVIII gene from their mothers. Females are mostly found to be carriers unless they inherited the mutation from both parents.

Article Synopsis
  • LGR5 is a significant stem cell marker in colorectal cancer (CRC) that enhances Wnt/Β-catenin signaling, making it a potential therapeutic target.
  • The study examined tissue samples from normal colon, adenomas, and CRC to analyze the expression levels of LGR5 and Β-catenin using immunohistochemical techniques.
  • Findings revealed that LGR5 was absent in normal tissues but showed higher expression in adenomas and CRC, indicating its potential role in cancer development and suggesting further exploration for therapeutic applications.

Introduction: The identification of bladder detrusor muscle invasion in urothelial cancer is essential for prognosis and management. We studied the clinical, histological, and immunohistochemical expression of p16, p53, and Ki-67 in urothelial detrusor muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) and urothelial non-detrusor muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) in Egyptian patients.

Methods: Sixty-two bladder urothelial cancer cases obtained through TURBT were included and divided into two groups: (MIBC, stage T2) and NMIBC (T1).

Objectives: Cytomegalovirus infection after lung transplant is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Inflammation, infection, and longer ischemic times are important risk factors for cytomegalovirus infection. Ex vivo lung perfusion has helped to successfully increase the use of high-risk donors over the last decade.

Objectives Circadian dysregulation (jetlag), sleep loss (extended wakefulness), sleep deprivation (acute or chronic), fatigue (exhaustion), preexisting medical and mental conditions, and medication use can all affect the cognitive and behavioral performance of commercial aircraft pilots. This study evaluated the sleep habits of pilots and copilots flying short-haul flights in the Gulf region. Methods This cross-sectional study examined Airbus A320 pilots and copilots for one of Saudi Arabia's commercial airlines.

Background In the management of lumbar spine diseases, various techniques have been described for minimizing intraoperative blood loss. Soft tissue extravasation and hemolysis have been referred to as hidden blood loss (HBL). By acknowledging HBL and accounting for it in our postoperative care, strategies of fluid infusion and blood transfusion may be altered.

: Patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT) often require increased blood product transfusion due to pre-existing coagulopathy and intraoperative fibrinolysis. Strategies to minimise intraoperative bleeding and subsequent blood product requirements include platelet transfusion and tranexamic acid (TXA). Prophylactic TXA administration has been shown to reduce bleeding and blood product requirements intraoperatively.

The calcium voltage-gated channel subunit alpha 1 H () is a gene present in eukaryotic cells located on chromosome 16 that encodes the T-type calcium channels, which are important for calcium influx and depolarization of cells. Pathogenic variants in cause autosomal dominant susceptibility to idiopathic generalized epilepsy 6 (OMIM: 611942), which is a broad term that encompasses several common seizure phenotypes. In this article, we reported a Saudi female with a heterozygous variant in the gene (OMIM: 607904) who had epilepsy and hearing loss.
