Mucormycosis is caused by saprophytic fungi belonging to the species mucorales. The disease commonly affects patients with immunocompromised states such as uncontrolled diabetes, blood disorders and organ transplantation recepients. The usual mode of management is by using antifungals such as amphotericin B and surgery in the form of debridement of the necrotic tissue.
