Pathway to dry skin prevention and treatment.

Background: This article presents an evidence-supported clinical pathway for dry skin prevention and treatment.

Objective: The development of the pathway involved the following: a literature review was conducted and demonstrated that literature on dry skin is scarce. To compensate for the gap in the available literature, a modified Delphi method was used to collect information on prevention and treatment practice through a panel, which included 10 selected dermatologists who currently provide medical care for dermatology patients in Ontario.

Minocycline-induced hyperpigmentation treated with a 755-nm Q-switched alexandrite laser.

Background: Cutaneous pigmentation associated with minocycline therapy is an unusual adverse effect for which few successful treatments have been described. The pigment changes may persist for years, despite cessation of therapy, and is often cosmetically disfiguring, causing significant embarrassment and psychological depression in those affected. Few safe and effective treatments have been described in the past; however, recent pigment-specific laser technology has shown promise in the treatment of this condition.

Lichen planopilaris presenting as truncal alopecia: a case presentation and review of the literature.

Lichen planopilaris is an inflammatory condition of unknown etiology, characterized by violaceous folliculocentric papules and hair loss. Some clinicians consider lichen planopilaris to be a variant of lichen planus, but others believe it to be a separate disease entity. Many treatment modalities have been utilized, with varying degrees of success.

Anterolateral leg alopecia revisited.

Alopecia of the leg-an extremely common yet ill-defined condition-is described in few contemporary dermatology textbooks. In this article, we describe 3 patients with anterolateral alopecia of the legs and further characterize this condition through a review of the literature.

Erythema nodosum associated with reactivation tuberculous lymphadenitis (scrofula).

A 73-year-old African American female presented to our clinic with painful lower extremity lesions of 2 weeks duration. She was in her usual state of health until 3 months prior to presentation when she reported symptoms of fatigue and weakness. She also noticed an enlarging mass on the left side of her neck.
