Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease associated with considerable morbidity. Praziquantel (PZQ) is effective against adult schistosomes, yet, it has little effect on juvenile stages, and PZQ resistance is emerging. Adopting the drug repurposing strategy as well as assuming enhancing the efficacy and lessening the doses and side effects, the present study aimed to investigate the in vivo therapeutic efficacy of the widely used antiarrhythmic, amiodarone, and diuretic, spironolactone, and combinations of them compared to PZQ.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic disease disproportionately affects CALD communities, and self-management is essential for effective management; however, these communities often struggle to engage with such approaches.
  • The Natural Helper Programme introduces cultural mentors with chronic disease experience into clinics to boost patient engagement and enhance factors like health self-efficacy and quality of life.
  • A rigorous trial will assess the impact of these cultural mentors through a cluster-randomized controlled trial in multicultural Australian clinics, measuring outcomes over time and evaluating implementation strategies.

We report the synthesis of new quinoline-2-one/pyrazole hybrids and their antiapoptotic activity. This effect was studied in sight of decreasing tissue damage induced by I/R in colon of rats using N-acetylcysteine (NAC) as anti-apoptotic reference. Compounds 6a, 6c and 6f showed significant improvement for oxidative stress parameters MDA, SOD, GSH and NOx in comparison with model group and greater than the reference NAC (N-acetylcysteine), whereas compounds 6d and 6e exhibited weaker antioxidant activity when compared with the reference NAC.

Background: Previous studies have shown that cytomegalovirus (CMV) induced innate immune response via activation of Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2). The association between CMV among specific single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the TLR2 gene was also investigated.

Objective: This study investigated the relationship between specific SNPs in the TLR2 gene (G>A), TLR2-Arg753Gln (rs5743708), and CMV replication after bone marrow transplantation.

Production of Polyglutamate (PGA) biopolymer by immobilized Bacillus licheniformis strain-R was intensively investigated. Preliminary experiments were carried out to address the most suitable immobilization methodology. Entrapment of Bacillus cells in alginate-agar led optimal PGA production (36.
