Introduction: Surgery is the cornerstone of the treatment for advanced ovarian cancer. Reaching complete cytoreduction resulting in no gross residual disease often requires complex surgery. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of increased surgical radicality on the risk of complications in the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer.

Methods: 247 patients with FIGO stage IIIB-IV ovarian, tubal, and primary peritoneal carcinoma were operated during 2013-2019 either by primary or interval cytoreduction in Tampere University Hospital, Finland. Group 1 (n = 122) patients were operated during 2013 and February 2016.
Background: Preoperative evaluation of ovarian tumors is challenging. This study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of conventional two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound and CA125 in predicting malignant or benign nature of pelvic masses, and to investigate if three-dimensional power Doppler (3DPD) ultrasound provides any added value. Ninety-six postmenopausal and four perimenopausal women with supposed ovarian tumors were examined by standardized 2D and 3DPD ultrasounds preoperatively.

The growth of new vessels, angiogenesis, is important for tumor growth and purported to be involved in the metastatic process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the significance of preoperative serum levels and immunohistochemical expression of angiogenic markers in predicting a metastasized disease.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOsteomyelitis is an infection of bone, which most frequently is found in weight-bearing bones of lower extremities. Only 4% of acute osteomyelitis cases have been found in the pubic bones in Finland. These cases of the pubic bones are usually related to gynecological or urological procedures or trauma.

Study Design: Preoperative sera were collected from 98 women with a diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma. The concentrations of HE4 and CA125 were assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and correlated with the results of the final histopathologic report.
Objective: To evaluate the usefulness of three-dimensional ultrasound (3D US), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and three-dimensional power Doppler angiography (3D-PDA) in the preoperative assessment of myometrial invasion in endometrial carcinoma.
Design: A prospective observational study.
Setting: University hospital.
Two cases of post-partum uterine artery pseudoaneurysm are described, 1 after normal vaginal delivery and the other after Caesarean section. Both cases were complicated by heavy bleeding and treated with catheter embolization. A turbulent arterial-type velocity waveform with high peak velocity and forward end-diastolic flow was registered in the feeding vessel.

The aim of this study was to examine the risk of upper GI events associated with various NSAIDs in a general population.
Material And Methods: A nationwide, register-based, matched case-control study was carried out in outpatient residents of Finland in 2000-04.
