Foreign body removal in the facial region poses significant challenges due to the complex anatomy and the proximity to critical structures. This study introduces a soft tissue-borne patient-specific guide (PSG) designed to enhance precision and minimize invasiveness in foreign body removal. Four patients underwent foreign body removal using PSGs, with CT and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging employed for segmentation and detailed analysis of both hard and soft tissues.

Article Synopsis
  • An altered sensation during root canal treatment can occur due to endodontic materials extruding into the inferior alveolar nerve canal, leading to paresthesia, which this study addresses through intentional replantation to manage such nerve injuries.
  • A case involving a 12-year-old girl illustrates this, where a separated endodontic file was found in the nerve canal; the chosen method was atraumatic extraction, cleaning the socket, and careful replantation, resulting in restored normal sensation.
  • The study emphasizes the importance of prompt intervention and teamwork between dental specialists to successfully treat such complications and achieve positive outcomes, such as bone healing and tooth stability after 15 months.

Unlabelled: Bone augmentation prior to dental implant placement is a common scenario in the dental implantology field. Among the important intraoral harvesting sites to obtain bone blocks is the ramus/retromolar region that has a high success rate and long-lasting alveolar ridge augmentation. Preserving the bone volume and quality at the donor site is crucial for preventing further complications or to serve as a site for re-harvesting.

Severe edentulous posterior mandible atrophy with inadequate bone height superior to the inferior alveolar canal may increase the risk of neurosensory impairment and other complications during inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) transposition (IANT) prior to dental implant insertion. The current report describes the tubing technique as a practical and feasible procedure that ensures IAN preservation during IANT. The technique involves wrapping a standard suction catheter around the exposed nerve to facilitate full coverage.

The present work dealt with the development of physically cross-linked injectable hydrogels with potential applications in tissue engineering. The hydrogels were composed of a ternary mixture of a polyanion and a polyampholyte, hyaluronic acid (HA) and gelatin, respectively, bridged by cationic cellulose nanocrystals (cCNCs). A 3D network is formed by employing attractive electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding between these components under physiological conditions.

Endometrial polyps (EPs) are benign overgrowths of the endometrium, with the potential to cause severe complications, ranging from discomfort to inflammation and infertility. Dysfunction of endometrial fibroblasts may be a critical component leading to the development of polyps. Although surgical intervention is the common remedy for severe cases, it comes with drawbacks, including infection, bleeding, and risk of damage to the cervix and adjacent tissues.

Objective: While COVID-19 symptoms impact rhinology (anosmia) and laryngology (airways), two major disciplines of the otolaryngology armamentarium, the virus has seemed to spare the auditory system. A recent study, however, reported changes in otoacoustic emission (OAE) signals measured in SARS-COV-2 positive patients. We sought to assess the effect of COVID-19 infection on auditory performance in a cohort of recovered SARS-COV-2 patients and controls.

The classic bone tissue engineering model for bone regeneration combines three elements: scaffolds, biomaterials, and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Incorporation of MSCs and growth factors into a scaffold implanted into the area of bone injury is a proven strategy to achieve successful bone regeneration as demonstrated in the literature. However, a major limitation of using bone grafts or scaffolds is oxygen (O) deprivation in the inner sections of the construct, due to lack of adequate vascularization.
