This study addresses the urgent need for culturally sensitive cognitive assessments in Egypt by validating an adapted version of Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol (HCAP) to the Egyptian context. This version is to be used as a part of the Egyptian Aging Survey (AL-SEHA). We enrolled 300 participants aged 55 + from diverse backgrounds and meticulously adapted the HCAP for Egypt's linguistic and cultural context.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the prevalence of cannabis abuse among multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and its effect on various cytokines in 150 MS cases compared to 150 healthy controls.
  • Out of the MS patients, 28 (about 18.67%) were identified as cannabis abusers; this group showed fewer relapses and reported improvement in symptoms, especially in terms of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine levels.
  • Overall, cannabis use in MS patients was associated with improved clinical symptoms, although certain issues like sexual dysfunction and visual disturbances remained unaffected.

Sulfonic acid analogues of 4-[1-(3,5,5,8,8-pentamethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-2-naphthyl)ethynyl]benzoic acid (bexarotene, 1) as well as seven novel and two reported analogues of 6-(ethyl(5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalen-2-yl)amino)nicotinic acid (NEt-TMN) were synthesized and assessed for selective retinoid X receptor (RXR) agonism. Compound 1 is FDA-approved for treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL); however, 1 can provoke side effects by impacting RXR-dependent receptor pathways. All of the analogues in this study were evaluated for their potential to bind RXR through modeling and then assayed in an RXR-RXR mammalian-2-hybrid (M2H) system and in RXR-responsive element (RXRE)-mediated transcriptional experiments.
