Unlabelled: transmits Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas) between citrus plants which causes the expression of huanglongbing disease in citrus. flavi-like virus (DcFLV) co-occurs intracellularly with CLas in populations in the field. However, the impact(s) of DcFLV presence on the insect vector and its interaction with the CLas phytopathogen remain unclear.

Xylanases are hemicellulases that break down xylan to soluble pentoses. They are used for industrial purposes, such as paper whitening, beverage clarification, and biofuel production. The second-generation bioethanol production is hindered by the enzymatic hydrolysis step of the lignocellulosic biomass, due to the complex arrangement established among its constituents.

Article Synopsis
  • Sugarcane is crucial for global agriculture, but its growth is challenged in acidic soils high in aluminum (Al), which can hinder crop development; studying its responses to Al stress can help enhance productivity in such conditions.
  • Various Brazilian sugarcane cultivars were tested for their physiological responses, nutrient contents, and gene expression related to Al stress, revealing significant differences among them.
  • The RB867515 cultivar was the most tolerant to Al stress, maintaining nutrient levels and showing key gene expressions for resilience, while RB928064 and RB935744 exhibited lower tolerance, providing insights for breeding Al-tolerant sugarcane varieties.

Phytocystatins are plant cystatins that are related to several physiological processes regulating endogenous cysteine proteases involved in seed development and germination, programmed cell death and response to stress conditions. In addition, phytocystatins can act in plant defense against exogenous peptidases from herbivorous insects, pathogens and nematodes. Considering that Citrus fruits are important to human nutrition and represent a high value crop in worldwide agriculture, in the present work, we performed the identification of putative cystatins from Citrus sinensis and from Citrus clementine and submitted them to phylogenetic analysis.
