Purpose: The goal of the current study was to clarify the potential molecular mechanism underlying the protective effects of silymarin (SIL) administration against diazinon-induced subacute nephrotoxicity, with a special emphasis on the role of the Kelch-like-associated protein-1 (Keap1)-nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) signaling pathway in minimizing the oxidative stress induced by diazinon (DZN).

Methods: Five equal groups of thirty adult male Wistar rats were created at random. Group 1 (G1) was maintained under typical control conditions and administered saline intragastrically (I/G) once daily for 4 weeks; G2 was administered olive oil I/G for 4 weeks; G3 was I/G administered silymarin daily for 4 weeks; G4 was I/G administered diazinon daily for 4 weeks.

Article Synopsis
  • Rice straw, a common byproduct of harvesting, poses environmental hazards when burned, prompting the need for sustainable alternatives.
  • The study focuses on synthesizing nano-silica (SNPs) from rice straw as a safe insecticide against the pest Callosobruchus maculatus, finding a 100% mortality rate at higher concentrations without harming cowpea seed germination.
  • The research suggests that converting rice straw into SNPs can effectively protect stored grains from infestation while promoting seed viability.

  • Sitotroga cerealella is a major pest affecting stored cereal grains, prompting research into alternative pest control methods using plant oils.
  • The study tested the fumigant toxicity of essential oils from Allium sativum (garlic) and Mentha piperita (peppermint), revealing high mortality rates in S. cerealella moths at various concentrations.
  • While A. sativum and M. piperita oils effectively killed the target pests, they slightly reduced the emergence and parasitism rates of the egg parasitoid Trichogramma evanescens, indicating their potential for integrated pest management without complete harm to beneficial species.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study investigated the protective effects of ChV on AFT-induced kidney damage and egg quality in quails, finding that AFT exposure led to kidney injury and decreased egg quality due to increased oxidative stress and inflammatory responses.
  • * ChV supplementation improved kidney health and egg quality by reducing AFT-related oxidative stress and inflammation, suggesting that dietary inclusion of ChV could be a viable approach to mitigate the negative effects of AFT.

Nanoemulsion is a promising delivery system for delivering the plant bioactive molecules against insect pests. In this study, we aimed to prepare eugenol based nanoemulsions (EL-NE) by ultrasonication method to investigate its fumigant toxicity against adults and to analyse the residual characteristics of eugenol bioactive on the treated grains and beetles. In EL-NE preparations, 1:1 ratio of eugenol: Tween 80 combination with 5 min of ultrasonication at frequency of 10 kHz and 12 W power output was determined as optimal.

Chemotherapy is an aggressive form of chemical drug therapy aiming to destroy cancer cells. Adjuvant therapy may reduce hazards of chemotherapy and help in destroying these cells when obtained from natural products, such as medical plants. In this study, the potential therapeutic effect of callus crude extract produced in vitamin-enhanced media is investigated on colorectal cancer cell line Caco-2.

Evaluating residual lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) levels in food products, especially milk, is critical for product safety and quality. In this purview, the current study aims to determine Pb and Cd concentrations in milk using atomic absorption spectrophotometry and compare their values with international standards. In addition, it aims to remove these metals from milk samples using low-cost, naturally occurring materials, such as bentonite, date pit, and chitosan nanoparticles.

Regenerative medicine is the field concerned with the repair and restoration of the integrity of damaged human tissues as well as whole organs. Since the inception of the field several decades ago, regenerative medicine therapies, namely stem cells, have received significant attention in preclinical studies and clinical trials. Apart from their known potential for differentiation into the various body cells, stem cells enhance the organ's intrinsic regenerative capacity by altering its environment, whether by exogenous injection or introducing their products that modulate endogenous stem cell function and fate for the sake of regeneration.

Deltamethrin (DM) is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide commonly used in veterinary and agriculture. However, both animal and human exposure are associated with hepatorenal toxicity. Our experimental goal was to assess the protective effects of Spirulina platensis (SP) against DM-induced hepatorenal injury, growth performance, meat chemical composition, and its residues in meat, liver, and skin of broiler chickens.

Fumigant toxicity of phytochemical volatiles has been widely reported against stored product insect pests. Such volatiles are considered as natural fumigants and bio-fumigants in post-harvest food protection research. In the present study, persistence and ingestion of diallyl disulfide, citral, eucalyptol, eugenol and menthol were investigated in Sitophilus oryzae adults in comparison with fumigant toxicity and microstructural impact in elytra.

Aim: The present study was aimed to estimate deltamethrin residues in cow's and goat's environment over a certain period of time post-application, to identify the role of both feed and water as a source of pesticides, and to conduct some trials to reduce their levels in milk.

Materials And Methods: A total of 80 water and feed samples (40 of each) and 120 milk samples (80 cow's milk and 40 goat's milk) were collected. Fresh milk samples were collected directly from the udder as well as from feed and water before application and 1, 2, 3, 7, 15, 21, and 35 days after insecticide application.
