War and education: the attacks on medical schools amidst ongoing armed conflict, Sudan 2023.

Background: War results in widespread destruction of a country's infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. This study aims to assess the attacks on medical schools amidst the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted across 58 medical schools located in the states of Khartoum, Darfur, and Kordofan.

Obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are highly prevalent disorders, associated with insulin resistance and chronic inflammation. The brain is key for energy homeostasis and contains many insulin receptors. Microglia, the resident brain immune cells, are known to express insulin receptors (InsR) and to be activated by a hypercaloric environment.

Breastfeeding rates and barriers: a report from the state of Qatar.

Objective: The aim of the study was to outline breastfeeding barriers faced by women residing in the State of Qatar.

Methods: A cross-sectional study through a telephone interview was conducted at Hamad Medical Corporation, the only tertiary care and accredited academic institution in the State of Qatar. Mothers of children born between the period of January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012 in the State of Qatar were contacted.

Physician and medical student perceptions and expectations of the pediatric clerkship: a Qatar experience.

Background: The average number of clerkship weeks required for the pediatric core rotation by the US medical schools is significantly lower than those required for internal medicine or general surgery.

Objective: The objective behind conducting this survey study was to explore the perceptions and expectations of medical students and pediatric physicians about the third-year pediatric clerkship.

Methods: An anonymous survey questionnaire was distributed to all general pediatric physicians at Hamad Medical Corporation and to students from Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar.

Back pain: the sole of presentation of sickle cell disease.

Diagnosing back pain in children and adolescents can be a challenge to health care providers. Although studies show that more than half of the cases of back pain in children are of non-organic cause, missing the right diagnosis could be detrimental. We present a case of lower back pain in a ten-year-old male whom we eventually diagnosed with hemoglobin SE mutation, which responded well to pain management.
