Predictors of mortality in periprosthetic fractures of the hip: Results from the national PPF study.

Introduction: Periprosthetic fractures (PPFs) around the hip joint are increasing in prevalence. In this collaborative study, we aimed to investigate the impact of patient demographics, fracture characteristics, and modes of management on in-hospital mortality of PPFs involving the hip.

Methods: Using a multi-centre cohort study design, we retrospectively identified adults presenting with a PPF around the hip over a 10-year period.

Outcomes of Total Joint Arthroplasty in Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic Groups Versus Local Population: A Retrospective Review.

Background:  Total hip and knee replacement decrease the disability caused by osteoarthritis of the lower extremities. Although it has been established that racial and ethnic minorities underutilize these procedures, little data on postoperative outcomes exists. The impact of race on postoperative Oxford scores and complications following total joint arthroplasty (TJA) will be investigated in this retrospective review.

Mortality and Incidence Rate of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Infection in Patients Admitted and Operated for Hip Fracture during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in a London Hospital.

 We are doing a study on patients admitted with hip fractures to determine the impact of COVID-19 on a vulnerable patients group in the United Kingdom. This will help us in making informed decisions about restarting elective surgical services and expanding trauma surgical services. The objectives of the study are: 1) to find the incidence of COVID-19 in patients admitted with hip fractures; 2) To find the 30-day mortality in patients operated with hip fractures; 3) To find the 30-day mortality of patients with hip fracture and COVID 19; and 4) to compare this data with the mortality in hip fractures in previous years.

Conservative Management of a Femoral Neck Stress Fracture in a Female Athlete. A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Unlabelled: Femoral-neck stress fractures are relatively rare and may present as sports-related injuries. The presentation is variable, and prompt diagnosis facilitates the earliest return to pre-morbid functional activity levels. Delayed detection may precipitate femoral non-union or avascular necrosis, resulting in long-term functional deficit.

A rare case of a swollen knee due to disseminated synovial chondromatosis: a case report.

Introduction: A synovial chondromatosis is a rare benign neoplasm on the synovium. Although described as a benign disease, it can be very destructive and can cause severe osteoarthritis and pain. To the best of our knowledge, we report the first known case of an extensive presentation of this intra-articular and extra-articular disease of the knee joint.
