Introduction: During the perinatal period, women have an increased risk for psychiatric disorders, which are highly prevalent in this context. In addition, there are significant delays in diagnosing these conditions, worsening their prognosis and increasing their societal burden. Studies describing psychiatric disorders in the perinatal period often focus on specific disorders; only postpartum depression and, to a lesser extent, anxiety disorders are studied.

Article Synopsis
  • Bipolar disorder (BD) is a complex mental health condition, and researchers aimed to identify a neurodevelopmental phenotype (NDP) that contributes to its development and impacts clinical outcomes.
  • By analyzing data from over 4,400 BD patients, they established nine specific clinical features that characterize this NDP, which are linked to poorer prognosis and treatment responses.
  • The findings suggest that patients with a higher NDP load may have overlapping genetic factors with ADHD, indicating a potential shared biological basis for these disorders.

The challenge in the clinic is to detect relevant non-motor symptoms while keeping patient-burden of questionnaires low and to take potential subgroups such as sex differences into account. The Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) effectively detects clinically significant fatigue in PD patients.

Adult-type granulosa cell tumors (aGCTs) account for 90% of malignant ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors and 2-5% of all ovarian cancers. These tumors are usually diagnosed at an early stage and are treated with surgery. However, one-third of patients relapse between 4 and 8 years after initial diagnosis, and there are currently no effective treatments other than surgery for these relapsed patients.
