Several studies attempt to identify predictors for weaning and extubation from mechanical ventilation (MV) and none have been shown to be particularly accurate. Therefore, the objective of the study was to evaluate whether markers of renal function may be associated with extubation failure. This retrospective study collected data through electronic medical records for 2 consecutive years.

Background:  Patients with severe coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) may require the use of invasive mechanical ventilation (MV) for prolonged periods. Aggressive MV parameters have been associated with changes in intracranial pressure (ICP) in patients with acute intracranial disorders. Significant ICP elevation could compromise intracranial compliance (ICC) and cerebrovascular hemodynamics (CVH).

Neuromonitoring is a critical tool for emergency rooms and intensive care units to promptly identify and treat brain injuries. The case report of a patient with status epilepticus necessitating orotracheal intubation and intravenous lorazepam administration is presented. A pattern of epileptiform activity was detected in the left temporal region, and intravenous Acyclovir was administered based on the diagnostic hypothesis of herpetic meningoencephalitis.

Purpose: Studies of critically ill hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients have mainly been single-center and focused on allogenic HSCT recipients. We aimed to describe a cohort of autologous HSCT with an unplanned intensive care unit (ICU) admission.

Methods: This study is a retrospective cohort study of autologous HSCT performed as a treatment for a hematological malignancy, during their first unplanned ICU admission in 50 hospitals in Brazil.

Background And Objectives: One of the greatest challenges found by the intensivists in their daily activities is tissue hipoperfusion control. Blood lactate is generally accepted as a marker of tissular hypoxia and several studies have demonstrated good correlation between blood lactate and prognosis during shock and resuscitation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical utility of arterial blood lactate as a marker of morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients in the post-operative period of high risk non-cardiac surgeries.
