Borderline Personality Disorder and Eating Disorders: Investigating the Role of Emotion Regulation.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and eating disorders (EDs) both cause significant distress and co-occur at rates higher than expected, signifying potential overlapping regulatory mechanisms between both disorders. More specifically, both disorders involve emotion regulation deficits, suggesting they may share specific maladaptive regulatory components. The present study sought to examine the predictive role of emotion dysregulation within the comorbidity between EDs and BPD.

Children Persist Less When Adults Take Over.

Children need to learn to persist through challenges, yet adults sometimes step in to solve problems for them. Here, we looked at how adult taking over related to children's persistence. In an observational study (N = 34, ages 4-8), we found that parents who took over more often during a challenging puzzle task rated their children as dispositionally less persistent.

Pathological narcissism and psychosocial functioning.

Pathological narcissism involves maladaptive efforts to regulate the self and is conceptualized by 2 key features: narcissistic grandiosity and narcissistic vulnerability. Prior research has found that narcissism is associated with poorer functioning over the long term, especially interpersonal functioning. Despite this, the specific contributions of grandiosity and vulnerability to different domains of functioning remain understudied.
