In this study, we explore the future of work by examining differences in productivity when teams are composed of only humans or both humans and machine agents. Our objective was to characterize the similarities and differences between human and human-machine teams as they work to coordinate across their specialized roles. This form of research is increasingly important given that machine agents are becoming commonplace in sociotechnical systems and playing a more active role in collaborative work.

Motivation: The identification of enhancer-promoter interactions (EPIs), especially condition-specific ones, is important for the study of gene transcriptional regulation. Existing experimental approaches for EPI identification are still expensive, and available computational methods either do not consider or have low performance in predicting condition-specific EPIs.

Results: We developed a novel computational method called EPIP to reliably predict EPIs, especially condition-specific ones.

Motivation: The bacterial haplotype reconstruction is critical for selecting proper treatments for diseases caused by unknown haplotypes. Existing methods and tools do not work well on this task, because they are usually developed for viral instead of bacterial populations.

Results: In this study, we developed BHap, a novel algorithm based on fuzzy flow networks, for reconstructing bacterial haplotypes from next generation sequencing data.

Controlled drainage (CD) is a structural conservation practice in which the drainage outlet is managed in order to reduce drain flow volume and nutrient loads to water bodies. The goal of this study was to evaluate the potential of CD to improve water quality for two different seasons and levels of outlet control, using ten years of data collected from an agricultural drained field in eastern Indiana with two sets of paired plots. The Rank Sum test was used to quantify the impact of CD on cumulative annual drain flow and nitrate-N and phosphorus loads.
