The human auditory cortex is organized according to the timing and spectral characteristics of speech sounds during speech perception. During listening, the posterior superior temporal gyrus is organized according to onset responses, which segment acoustic boundaries in speech, and sustained responses, which further process phonological content. When we speak, the auditory system is actively processing the sound of our own voice to detect and correct speech errors in real time.

Hereditary dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a primary disease of cardiac myocytes caused by mutations in genes encoding proteins with a diverse array of functions. Mutations in the gene, encoding the nuclear envelope protein lamin A/C, are the second most common causes of DCM. The phenotype is characterized by progressive cardiac dysfunction, leading to refractory heart failure, myocardial fibrosis, cardiac arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death.

Earlier, we reported that elevated anxiety-like behavior and high aggression in aged retired breeder Long-Evans (L-E) rats was associated with increased plasma corticosterone and elevated oxidative stress levels. In the present study, we examined how this aged aggressive and anxious rat strain responds to acute sleep deprivation (24h) and whether their behaviors can be modulated via antioxidant tempol treatment. Four groups of L-E rats were utilized: naïve control (NC), tempol treated control (T+NC), sleep deprived (SD), tempol treated and sleep deprived (T+SD).
