Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has become the preferred approach over open repair for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) due to its minimally invasive nature. The common femoral artery (CFA) is the main access vessel for EVAR, with both surgical exposure and percutaneous access being utilized. However, in emergent cases, percutaneous access can be challenging and may result in complications such as bleeding or dissection thrombosis, leading to the need for surgical conversion.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looks at how a special type of vein, called cryopreserved saphenous vein (CSV), works in surgeries to improve blood flow in legs that might need amputation.
  • Researchers checked the results from 95 patients over several years to see how well the surgeries helped avoid major problems like dying or needing a leg amputation.
  • They found that using CSV can really help in saving legs by keeping blood flowing, and certain factors, like how the surgery is done, can affect how well it works.

To define proximal neck dilation (PND) after standard endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) and fenestrated EVAR (FEVAR), determining: incidence and risk factors; evidence base that links PND to outcomes of patients; recurring themes or gaps in the literature. We performed a scoping review and included only full-text English articles with follow-up focusing on PND in patients undergoing EVAR or FEVAR, published between 2000 and 2022. The following PICO question was used to build the search equation: in patients with abdominal-aortic-aneurysm (AAA) (Population) undergoing endovascular repair (Intervention), what are the incidence, risk factors and prognosis of radiologically defined PND (Comparison) on short-term and long-term outcomes (Outcomes)? 15 articles were included after review.
