A subset of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients tests positive for antibodies commonly associated with autoimmune neurological diseases, including voltage-gated potassium channel (VGKC)-complex antibodies. Although an autoimmune basis for ALS remains speculative, and immunomodulatory therapies have shown minimal benefit as of yet, isolated cases suggest that VGKC-complex antibodies may be relevant to disease type and progression. In this report, we present a case of ALS in which increasing VGKC-complex antibody levels correlated with clinical decline, raising the question of whether such antibodies could serve as biomarkers of progression in VGKC-complex antibody-positive ALS patients.

Background: Prior authorization (PA) is a utilization management strategy used by health plans to ensure affordable, cost-effective care; however, PA may lead to therapy delay/abandonment and exacerbate health disparities. The purpose of this observational study was to assess the clinical outcomes and any health disparities associated with PA for diabetes mellitus (DM) medications.
Materials And Methods: This was a cohort study of US adult patients from health plans with integrated and non-integrated system providers who were prescribed a DM medication that required a PA.

The boronium cations were designed with specific structural motifs that delivered improved electrochemical and physical properties, as evaluated through cyclic voltammetry, broadband dielectric spectroscopy, densitometry, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. Boronium cations, which were appended with -alkylpyrrolidinium substituents, exhibited superior physicochemical properties, including high conductivity, low viscosity, and electrochemical windows surpassing 6 V.

Methods: During psychiatry placement, ten year-4 University of Bristol medical students created peer-educational multi-episode podcasts on psychiatric topics. Following completion, they submitted reflective essays on their experiences.
Genetic germline variants of PPP2R5D (encoding: phosphoprotein phosphatase 2 regulatory protein 5D) result in PPP2R5D-related disorder (Jordan's Syndrome), which is characterized by intellectual disability, hypotonia, seizures, macrocephaly, autism spectrum disorder, and delayed motor skill development. The disorder originates from de novo single nucleotide mutations, generating missense variants that act in a dominant manner. Pathogenic mutations altering 13 different amino acids have been identified, with the E198K variant accounting for ∼40% of reported cases.

Over the course of this 3-day symposium, 17 expert scholars (see author list) deliberated on the question "In the context of US pediatric care, what moral precepts ought to guide parents and clinicians in medical decision making for children?" The symposium and subsequent discussion generated 6 consensus recommendations for pediatric decision making, constructed with the primary goals of accessibility, teachability, and feasibility for practicing clinicians, parents, and legal guardians. In this article, we summarize these recommendations, including their justification, limitations, and remaining concerns.

Kidney decellularization requires the ionic detergent sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS); however, this results in a loss of ECM proteins important for cell adherence, migration, and growth, particularly glycosaminoglycan (GAG)-associated proteins. Here, we demonstrate that using submicellar concentrations of SDS results in a greater retention of structural proteins, GAGs, growth factors, and cytokines.
