Background And Aims: Mounting evidence have implicated that rs1801131 and rs1801133, located in the Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene, may emerge as novel biomarkers for coronary artery disease (CAD). The Synergy between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with Taxus and Cardiac Surgery (SYNTAX) score is also an appropriate predictor for revascularization strategy in patients with complex CAD. The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation between rs1801131 and rs1801133 with the severity of coronary lesions in patients with ST‑Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) and Non‑ST‑Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI) based on the SYNTAX score.

Article Synopsis
  • Alzheimer's disease (AD) is influenced by environmental factors like air pollution, but the exact way pollution leads to neurodegeneration is still unclear.
  • The study focused on the role of tau proteins, especially the harmful cis conformation of phosphorylated tau (p-tau), in relation to air pollution exposure in mice.
  • Results indicated that pollution increased the levels of neurotoxic cis p-tau and decreased the Pin1 protein, suggesting a potential link between air pollution and tau-related pathology in AD.

Background: This study aims to predict the trend of procurement and storage of various blood products, as well as planning and monitoring the consumption of blood products in different centers across Iran based on artificial intelligence until the year 2027.

Methods: This research constitutes a time-series investigation within the realm of longitudinal studies. In this study, information on the number of packed red blood cells (RBC), leukoreduced red blood cells (LR-RBC), and platelets (PLT), PLT-Apheresis, and fresh frozen plasma (FFP) was requested from all blood transfusion centers in the country and extracted using a unified protocol.

  • Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is becoming a big problem around the world because more people are getting diabetes.
  • This study looked at 300 people to see if certain gene changes (polymorphisms) are related to diabetic retinopathy.
  • They found that one specific gene change was linked to higher blood pressure in some patients and might play a role in developing DR, but more research is needed with more people.

In the present study, we investigated the effects of N-homocysteine thiolactone (tHcy) modification on expressed and purified tau protein and the synthesized VQIVYK target peptide. The modified constructs were subjected to comprehensive validation using various methodologies, including mass spectrometry. Subsequently, in vivo, in vitro, and in silico characterizations were performed under both reducing and non-reducing conditions, as well as in the presence and absence of heparin as a cofactor.

Article Synopsis
  • Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic liver issue globally, and the expression of a gene called ANGPTL8 might help predict who is more likely to develop it.
  • The study analyzed 423 participants (222 healthy and 201 with NAFLD) to understand how ANGPTL8 gene variations affect lipid profiles and liver health, particularly looking at two genetic variations: rs737337 and rs2278426.
  • Findings showed that certain genetic markers (like rs737337) are linked to a lower risk of liver enzyme elevation in NAFLD patients, while others (like rs2278426) indicate a higher risk, suggesting further study is needed to explore how ANGPTL

The use of phytochemicals for purpose of cancer therapy has been accelerated due to resistance of tumor cells to conventional chemotherapy drugs and therefore, monotherapy does not cause significant improvement in the prognosis and survival of patients. Therefore, administration of natural products alone or in combination with chemotherapy drugs due to various mechanisms of action has been suggested. However, cancer therapy using phytochemicals requires more attention because of poor bioavailability of compounds and lack of specific accumulation at tumor site.
