With the increasing global population, the disposal of waste has risen, especially over the last century. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported that 11 million tons of textile-related waste were landfilled in the USA in 2018, and this amount is projected to increase to 4.5 billion tons by 2040.

Cefotaxime was enclosed in a micellar system to improve its solubility and effectiveness. TX-100 and TW-80 were used in an amphiphilic self-assembly process to create the micellar formulation.

These bio-based inclusions are biodegradable, biocompatible and environmental friendly. Industrial production of, short chain and medium chain length PHA, involves the use of microorganisms and their enzymes.

The surface morphology and involvement of functional group attributes of CLLCs were scrutinized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). As fabricated CLLCs were subjected to kinetic characterization by assessing the effects of pH environment, thermal profile, and substrate (determination of K and V) on the activity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFT-IR spectroscopy is a non-destructive testing technique that requires minimal sample preparation time and allows the rapid characterization of structural features of complex, polymeric material. This technique has been frequently used in the past for the detection of PHA (Polyhydroxyalkanoates) but rarely for their quantification. In this work, by using cluster and discriminant statistical analysis of FT-IR data, different models are proposed for rapid identification of PHA monomers produced under different growth conditions by bacterial strains, and for their semi quantification.

Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), a biopolyester produced by microbial cells, has characteristics (biocompatible, biodegradable, non-toxic) that make it appropriate as a biodegradable plastic substance. The different forms of PHA make it suitable to a wide choice of products, from packaging materials to biomedical applications.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTwenty bacterial strains were examined on their ability to produce polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) from different carbon sources under rich and depleted nitrogen conditions. Preliminary experiments with glucose as sole carbon source allowed to select PHA producing bacteria using FTIR spectroscopy. They were further tested with eight additional carbon substrates including organic, fatty acids or sugars.
