Purpose: In Boston and Outer Cape, Massachusetts, we explored the expectations of lesbians 60 years and older regarding healthy aging and community importance.
Methods: Focus groups were conducted with participants after completing an anonymous demographic questionnaire. Thematic analysis was used to generate themes and identify how they varied by urban versus rural settings.
Background: Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-12 (rhBMP-12) has been shown to induce tendon and ligament formation in rats and to improve tendon healing; however, the safety and feasibility of implanting rhBMP-12/absorbable collagen sponge (ACS) in humans are not known.
Purpose: To investigate the safety and feasibility of rhBMP-12 on an ACS as an adjuvant therapy in open rotator cuff repair.
Study Design: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 2.
Background: Failure of tendon healing after a rotator cuff repair is demonstrated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a fluid-filled defect within the tendon. The frequency of, and factors associated with, failure of the tendon repair to heal have been the focus of many clinical studies. The timing of when these defects occur has not been previously studied in a large prospectively defined patient population, to our knowledge.

Unfortunately, the effect of Charcot arthropathy on quality of life in diabetic patients has not been systematically studied because of a lack of a disease-specific instrument. The purpose of this study was to develop and test an instrument to evaluate the health-related quality of life of diabetic foot disease.

This study presents the 2-year followup data of a previous prospective outcome study.
Methods: One hundred and ninety-six patients were enrolled in this study and completed a baseline AAOS Lower Limb Outcomes Data Collection Questionnaire.

Background: Functional and health-related quality-of-life data on a population of patients with hallux valgus are lacking. Similarly, the correlation of the severity of the deformity with these measures is unknown.
Methods: Two hundred and eighty-five women with an average age of forty-nine years who were scheduled for bunion surgery were enrolled in the study.
Patients with low-trauma fractures are at risk of future fractures and so should be evaluated and treated for osteoporosis. This study was conducted to assess and compare bone medication use and calcium and vitamin D intake at the time of and after an acute fracture. One hundred and six patients, mean age 66.

The Lower Limb Instruments were developed through a process of literature review, consensus-building, and field-testing.
Methods: The instruments were distributed to a total of 290 subjects in twenty orthopaedic practices throughout the United States and Canada.
