Evaluation of the analytical performance of the 15-minute point-of-care DASH™ SARS-CoV-2 RT-qPCR test.

Accurate and timely diagnosis for COVID-19 diagnosis allows highly effective antiviral medications to be prescribed. The DASH™ Rapid PCR System is a sample-to-answer point-of-care platform combining state-of-the-art PCR kinetics with sequence specific hybridization. The platform's first assay, the DASH™ SARS-CoV-2/S test for anterior nares direct swab specimens, received FDA Emergency Use Authorization in March 2022 for point-of-care use.

A Qualitative Study on the Impact of First Steps-A Peer-led Educational Intervention for People Newly Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

The dual aim of this research was to consider the impact of providing the First Steps program on the stories of people with Parkinson's Disease (PD) and to investigate the psychosocial and emotional mechanisms which may explain this impact. : A qualitative study using a subtle realist paradigm and hermeneutic phenomenological methodology was undertaken. A single semi-structured interview was used to consider the impact and experiences of people with PD who completed either the intervention (2-day peer-led behavior intervention using storytelling 6-8 weeks apart) or received telephone support calls as part of the active control group.

Screening for fetal chromosomal disorders has evolved greatly over the last four decades. Initially, only maternal age-related risks of aneuploidy were provided to patients. This was followed by screening with maternal serum analytes and ultrasound markers, followed by the introduction and rapid uptake of maternal plasma cell-free DNA-based screening.

Is there a post-PPH syndrome?

Background: Despite early studies reporting significant decreases in postoperative pain and morbidity with the procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids (PPH) compared to traditional hemorrhoidectomy, certain complications and long-term efficacy remain uncertain. This study was performed to assess the prevalence of usage of PPH and the observed postoperative complaints and complications.

Methods: A questionnaire was mailed to national and international members of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) and the accumulated data were reviewed.

Quality analysis of bilateral reduction mammaplasty using a state-legislated comparative database and an internal hospital-based system.

This study analyzed trends in reduction mammaplasty at our institution using Atlas and Lastword databases for calendar years 1991 to 1998 and 1993 to 1998, respectively. Cases were identified by ICD-9-CM principle procedure codes. Patients were analyzed for length of stay (LOS), discharge disposition, complications, and readmission.

Performance of autistic and control subjects on three cognitive perspective-taking tasks.

One explanation for the persistent social disabilities of individuals with autism is based on the nature of social stimuli, being transient, complex and very difficult to predict. It was suggested that autistic people's performance on cognitive perspective-taking tasks (a measure of understanding of other people) would be enhanced with increased predictability and reduced transience of stimulus materials. Thus autistic and control subjects were tested on Baron-Cohen, Leslie, and Frith's (1985) "Sally/Anne" task and on two other perspective-taking tasks that involved more predictable interactions and nontransient cues.
