Introduction: Gonorrhea, caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), is the second most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI). Rates of antimicrobial resistance to standard care are increasing worldwide, with many antibiotic classes now ineffective against NG. Gepotidacin is a first-in-class, bactericidal, triazaacenaphthylene antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA replication by inhibition of two enzymes, where a single target-specific mutation does not significantly impact susceptibility.

Background: Many patients with hand osteoarthritis (HOA) experience reduced health-related quality of life. This study sought to better understand the disease and treatment experience of individuals with HOA, explore any differences in experiences between erosive and non-erosive HOA sub-types, and evaluate content validity of the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) in HOA.

Methods: Thirty subjects from the United States (n = 15 erosive HOA; n = 15 non-erosive HOA) participated in semi-structured interviews: concept elicitation explored symptoms/impacts important to patients; cognitive interviews assessed understanding and relevance of the MHQ.

In March 2014, GSK announced a number of new strategic investments in Africa. One of these included investment of up to 25 million Pounds Sterling (£25 million) to create the world's first R&D Open Lab to increase understanding of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Africa. The vision is to create a new global R&D effort with GSK working in partnership with major funders, academic centres and governments to share expertise and resources to conduct high-quality research.
