We led a systematic analysis of representative uremic toxin removal with hemodialysis (HD), online postdilution hemodiafiltration (postHDF) and online predilution hemodiafiltration (preHDF), in a single-center crossover and prospective observational study. The primary outcome was the reduction ratio of uremic toxins of the three categories defined by the Eutox group.

Parenteral N-acetylcysteine has a wide variety of clinical applications, but its use can be limited by a poor chemical stability. We managed to control parenteral N-acetylcysteine stability, and to study the influence of additives on the decrease of N-acetylcysteine degradation. First, an HPLC-UV dosing method of N-acetylcysteine and its main degradation product, a dimer, was validated and the stability without additive was studied.

Epithelial polarity is established locally, within individual cells to establish distinct apical, junctional and basolateral domains, and globally, within a tissue where cells coordinately orient their apico-basolateral axes. Using live imaging of endogenously tagged proteins and tissue-specific protein depletion in the Caenorhabditiselegans embryonic intestine, we found that local and global polarity establishment are temporally and genetically separable.

Background: Myostatin and activin A induce muscle wasting by activating the ubiquitin proteasome system and inhibiting the Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin pathway. In chronic kidney disease (CKD), myostatin and activin A plasma concentrations are increased, but it is unclear if there is increased production or decreased renal clearance.
Methods: We measured myostatin and activin A concentrations in 232 CKD patients and studied their correlation with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).
Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health issue associated with increased cardiovascular, infectious and all-cause mortality. The neutrophil:lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a predictive marker of the risk of death and cardiovascular events. Uremic toxins, notably indoxyl sulfate (IS), are involved in immune deficiency and cardiovascular complications associated with CKD.

Introduction: The Sézary syndrome (SS) is an aggressive form of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) requiring a rapid diagnosis due to its poor prognosis.
Case Report: We report the first case of an eighty-nine-year-old woman who presented with concomitant Sezary syndrome and anasarca, revealing a nephrotic syndrome caused by a minimal change nephropathy associated with immunoglobulin A (IgA) deposits. Scarce literature described rare cases associating these two entities (nephrotic syndrome and nephropathy).
COVID-19 is a disease caused by the RNA virus SARS-CoV-2. It is characterised by an attack mainly affecting the respiratory system. There is renal involvement which is characterised by three main types of damage, acute tubular necrosis occurring in the most severe cases, proximal tubulopathy which is a prognostic marker of the disease and segmental and focal hyalinosis occurring in a genetically predisposed terrain.

Using the developing intestine as an in vivo model, we investigated how epithelia maintain their integrity through cell division and elongation to build a functional tube. Live imaging revealed that apical PAR complex proteins PAR-6/Par6 and PKC-3/aPkc remained apical during mitosis while apical microtubules and microtubule-organizing center (MTOC) proteins were transiently removed.

Built from structurally asymmetric subunits of αβ-tubulin heterodimers, microtubules have an inherent structural polarity with a slow-growing minus end and a comparatively dynamic plus end that grows and shrinks. Thus, a key feature of microtubules is that each polymer is polarized, allowing for the execution of cellular tasks that are directional in nature.

Introduction: There is no feasible benchmark in daily routine to estimate the hydration status of haemodialysis patients, which is essential to their management.
Objective: We performed a study in haemodialysis patients to assess the diagnostic performance of pulmonary ultrasound and clinical examination for the evaluation of fluid overload using transthoracic echocardiography as a gold standard.
Methods: Thirty-one patients receiving chronic haemodialysis patients were included.
Cell proliferation and quiescence are intimately coordinated during metazoan development. Here, we adapt a cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) sensor to uncouple these key events of the cell cycle in and zebrafish through live-cell imaging. The CDK sensor consists of a fluorescently tagged CDK substrate that steadily translocates from the nucleus to the cytoplasm in response to increasing CDK activity and consequent sensor phosphorylation.

We evaluated the incidence, risk factors and causes of acute kidney injury (AKI) in a monocentric real-life cohort of patients treated with anti-programmed death receptor-1 (anti-PD1) antibodies for advanced melanoma.
Methods: Retrospective collection of medical charts and comprehensive analysis of lab results from patients treated with nivolumab or pembrolizumab for advanced melanoma between 2014 and 2018 was carried out.
A polarized arrangement of neuronal microtubule arrays is the foundation of membrane trafficking and subcellular compartmentalization. Conserved among both invertebrates and vertebrates, axons contain exclusively 'plus-end-out' microtubules while dendrites contain a high percentage of 'minus-end-out' microtubules, the origins of which have been a mystery. Here we show that in the dendritic growth cone contains a non-centrosomal microtubule organizing center (MTOC), which generates minus-end-out microtubules along outgrowing dendrites and plus-end-out microtubules in the growth cone.
