Everything that the brain sees must first be encoded by the retina, which maintains a reliable representation of the visual world in many different, complex natural scenes while also adapting to stimulus changes. This study quantifies whether and how the brain selectively encodes stimulus features about scene identity in complex naturalistic environments. While a wealth of previous work has dug into the static and dynamic features of the population code in retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), less is known about how populations form both flexible and reliable encoding in natural moving scenes.

In this work we investigated the mechanical and microstructural changes in commercial TAVR valves composed of both glutaraldehyde fixed bovine and porcine pericardium (GLBP and GLPP) following accelerated wear testing (AWT) as outlined in ISO 5840 standards. This provided greater physiological relevance to the loading compared to previous studies and by utilizing digital image correlation we were able to obtain strain contours for each leaflet pre and post fatigue and identify sites of fatigue damage.

A shared effect of these mutations is that SOD1, which is normally a stable dimer, dissociates into toxic monomers that seed toxic aggregates. Considerable research effort has been devoted to developing compounds that stabilize the dimer of fALS SOD1 variants, but unfortunately, this has not yet resulted in a treatment.

Such systems evolved to meet the behavioral needs of the organism in its natural environment, and may therefore be adapted to the statistics of motion it is likely to encounter. By tracking the movement of individual points in movies of natural scenes, we begin to identify common properties of natural motion across scenes.

This physiological process may represent a powerful ocean acidification mitigation tool in coastal areas. However, highly variable nearshore environmental conditions pose uncertainty in the extent of the amelioration effect.

The frequency and coverage of observations from geostationary orbit will improve quantification and reduce uncertainty in tracking water quality events such as harmful algal blooms and oil spills. This study looks at the potential for GLIMR to complement existing satellite platforms from its unique geostationary viewpoint for water quality and oil spill monitoring with a focus on temporal and spatial resolution aspects.

The Get Healthy in Pregnancy (GHiP) program is a telephone health coaching program supporting healthy GWG delivered state-wide in New South Wales, Australia. This evaluation explores the impact of GHiP on behavioural outcomes and GWG, analysing GHiP participant data (n = 3702 for 2018-2019).

These results suggest that the perceptual and saccade targeting systems integrate visual information over different time scales. Functional imaging studies in humans have revealed several potential cortical areas of interest, including the prefrontal cortex.

We aimed to describe lifestyle behaviours at 6 months post-HDP in four HDP subgroups, and their association with markers of cardiometabolic health. Subgroups were chronic hypertension (CH), gestational hypertension (GH), preeclampsia, and preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension (CH + PE).

However, the immunomodulatory role of fibroblasts in lymphoma remains unclear. Here, by studying human and mouse DLBCL-LNs, we identified the presence of an aberrantly remodeled fibroblastic reticular cell (FRC) network expressing elevated fibroblast-activated protein (FAP).

Earlier, we showed that partial inhibition of mitochondrial complex I (MCI) with the small molecule CP2 induces an adaptive stress response, activating multiple neuroprotective mechanisms. Chronic treatment reduced inflammation, Aβ and pTau accumulation, improved synaptic and mitochondrial functions, and blocked neurodegeneration in symptomatic APP/PS1 mice, a translational model of AD.

High resolution study of mitochondrial structural and functional relationships requires rapid preservation of specimens to reduce technical artifacts coupled with quantitative assessment of mitochondrial architecture. A practical approach for assessing mitochondrial fine structure using two dimensional and three dimensional high-resolution electron microscopy is presented, and a systematic approach to measure mitochondrial architecture, including volume, length, hyperbranching, cristae morphology, and the number and extent of interaction with the ER is described.

The minimal complex has three catalytic components, which are cytochrome , cytochrome , and the Rieske iron-sulfur subunit, but the function of mitochondrial cytochrome complexes is modified by up to eight supernumerary subunits. The cytochrome complex from the purple phototrophic bacterium has a single supernumerary subunit called subunit IV, which is absent from current structures of the complex.

However, to date, a comprehensive analysis of this issue has not been undertaken in heme protein-induced AKI (HP-AKI). We examined key aspects of mitochondrial function, expression of proteins relevant to mitochondrial quality control, and mitochondrial ultrastructure in HP-AKI, along with responses to heme in renal proximal tubule epithelial cells.

Tangier disease is a rare condition belonging to this family of lipid disorders; however, it is not associated with kidney disease. We report a patient presenting with nephrotic syndrome, leading to the unmasking of Tangier disease.
