Aim: Gingival phenotype (GP) is regarded as a valuable indicator for forecasting the probability of attaining favourable aesthetic and functional results with orthodontic treatment. This study aimed to investigate the accuracy and reproducibility of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) for assessing gingival thickness (GT) in both arches compared to the transgingival probing method. The secondary objective was to determine the optimal cut-off values for GT using CBCT.

Article Synopsis
  • The study introduces a new cephalometric measure called the Zeta angle, designed to assess the maxillomandibular relationship in individuals with sagittal skeletal dysplasia.
  • Using 291 lateral cephalograms of young participants, researchers classified skeletal relationships and measured the Zeta angle to identify discrepancies in jaw alignment.
  • Findings suggest specific ranges of the Zeta angle correlate with skeletal class types, showing strong sensitivity and specificity for distinguishing between skeletal classes II and III.

Background: Rapid distraction of the periodontal ligament is an effective method to shorten the orthodontic treatment time. The objectives of the present study were to assess the effects of an HYCON device (Adenta GmbH, Germany) on the rate of en masse retraction of the anterior teeth, duration of retraction, anchorage loss, root resorption, and soft tissue changes.

Methods: This study was conducted on 60 female patients aged >18 years, divided randomly into two equal groups: Group 1 comprised 30 patients with HYCON, and group 2 comprised 30 patients with nickel-titanium closed coil springs.
