A comprehensive method to analyze single-cell vibrations.

All living cells vibrate depending on metabolism. It has been hypothesized that vibrations are unique for a given phenotype and thereby suitable to diagnose cancer type and stage and to pre-assess the effectiveness of pharmaceutical treatments in real time. However, cells exhibit highly variable vibrational signals, can be subject to environmental noise, and may be challenging to differentiate, having so far limited the phenomenon's applicability.

PD-L1 is highly expressed in ovarian cancer and associated with cancer stem cells populations expressing CD44 and other stem cell markers.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors, including PD-L1 (programmed death ligand-1) inhibitors have well documented anticancer therapeutic effect in most types of cancers but its use in the treatment of ovarian cancer is not yet proven. The aim of our study is to explore the predictive biomarkers in ovarian cancer and its association with the outcomes. We have investigated the role of PD-L1 expressions in the tumor microenvironment cells including immune cells and cancer stem cells in different types of ovarian cancer.

Role of HLA typing and chimerism analysis in post-liver transplantation GVHD in pediatrics: A systematic review.

Background: GVHD is a well-documented complication after liver transplantation. GVHD occurs when donor immune cells mount a destructive immune response against host cells. The rarity of the GVHD complication and the nonspecific presentation of symptoms and histopathological features provide a diagnostic challenge.

PAX2 induces vascular-like structures in normal ovarian cells and ovarian cancer.

In adult tissue, the paired box 2 (PAX2) protein is expressed in healthy oviductal, but not normal ovarian surface epithelial cells. PAX2 is expressed in a subset of cases of serous ovarian carcinoma; however, the role of PAX2 in the initiation and progression of ovarian cancer remains unknown. The aim of the present study was to determine the biological effects of PAX2 expression in normal and cancerous epithelial cells.

Graft-versus-host disease after pediatric liver transplantation: A diagnostic challenge.

Background: Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a rare but serious complication after pediatric liver transplantation (LTx). Early diagnosis is difficult due to nonspecific presenting symptoms and non-pathognomonic skin histopathological features. The aim of this article was to describe a case of pediatric GVHD after LTx and to review available data on pediatric GVHD highlighting the diagnostic difficulty.

Dysfunction of pulmonary surfactant mediated by phospholipid oxidation is cholesterol-dependent.

Pulmonary surfactant forms a cohesive film at the alveolar air-lung interface, lowering surface tension, and thus reducing the work of breathing and preventing atelectasis. Surfactant function becomes impaired during inflammation due to degradation of the surfactant lipids and proteins by free radicals. In this study, we examine the role of reactive nitrogen (RNS) and oxygen (ROS) species on surfactant function with and without physiological cholesterol levels (5-10%).
