Purpose: The Algerbrush II has been widely used to induce corneal and limbal injuries in animal models. The extent of injury varies with the duration of exposure, pressure from the placement of the burr, and the size of the burr. However, no study has explored the correlation between the duration of exposure and the severity of injury in mouse model with corneal and limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) induced using the Algerbrush II.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates corneal healing responses in mice after various chemical and mechanical injuries, which is crucial for understanding how such injuries affect the cornea and the effectiveness of treatments.
  • Four groups of mice underwent injuries using methods like AlgerBrush, NaOH, and ethanol, with their recovery assessed using slit-lamp examinations and optical coherence tomography over 14 days.
  • Results indicated that chemical injuries led to less corneal opacity and better epithelial thickness compared to mechanical injuries, suggesting inflammation significantly impacts healing outcomes.

The choroid is one of the most vascularized regions of the human body. Therefore, various local and systemic physiologic/pathologic conditions and environmental factors have effects on choroidal thickness.

Article Synopsis
  • The choroid is a highly vascular area in the human body, meaning it has a dense network of blood vessels.
  • Various local (specific to a certain area) and systemic (whole body) conditions, whether they're healthy or unhealthy, can affect its thickness.
  • Environmental factors also play a role in influencing choroidal thickness.
