The frequency of bacterial factors causing central nervous system infections has decreased as a result of the development of our national immunization program. In this study, it is aimed to obtain the data of our local surveillance by defining the viral etiology in cases diagnosed with meningoencephalitis for 1 year. An original all-arthroscopic technique for bony fixation of lateral meniscus allograft via four tibial tunnels: A cadaver study.

Bone fixation of the two roots improves meniscal allograft positioning as compared to simple meniscal peripheral wall fixation. Ramsey spectroscopy of bound atomic states with extreme-ultraviolet laser harmonics.

We report the experimental measurement of Ramsey interference fringes in the single-photon excitation to a high-lying bound state of atomic argon by pairs of phase-locked, time-delayed, extreme UV high-order-harmonic pulses at 87 nm. High-visibility Ramsey fringes are observed for delays larger than 100 ps, thus demonstrating a potential resolving power >10(5) at this wavelength.

Direct interferometric measurement of the atomic dipole phase in high-order harmonic generation.

We report the first direct measurements of the atomic dipole phase in the process of high-order harmonic generation. Differently from previously reported studies based on frequency chirp measurements, we use extreme ultraviolet interferometry as the most natural and direct way to measure phase shifts. Our approach has the important advantage of allowing us to investigate the effects associated to both the main quantum paths involved in the emission of a particular harmonic, thus offering a particularly clear and simple picture of the underlying electronic dynamics.

Enhancement of harmonic generation by Fresnel-lensing effects.

We present experimental results of enhanced second- and third-harmonic generation efficiency from Fresnel-lensing effects. We obtained enhancement by a factor of 6 in the third-harmonic yield by simply limiting the laser beam with an iris. Higher enhancement factors (up to 16) were obtained with a Fresnel zone plate.

Ultrashort-pulse modulation in adiabatically prepared Raman media.

We demonstrate the efficient modulation of an approximately 100-femtosecond pulse in a Raman medium coherently prepared by nanosecond pulses. Raman sidebands of the ultrashort pulse spanning 360 THz are generated with an efficiency of >5%. We show that the mechanism permitting the sidebands to be generated is the preparation of a significant vibrational coherence in the medium that is robust to disturbance by an intense short pulse.

Foscarnet therapy for congenital cytomegalovirus liver fibrosis following prenatal ascites.

We report on an infant with multi-system disease including liver fibrosis, right microphthalmia with cataract, interstitial pneumonitis, and hyperechoic lesions in the basal ganglia and in the periventricular and thalamic regions. Prenatal ascites with hepatomegaly concomitantly with detection of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in the amniotic fluid, following recurrent maternal CMV infection, had been shown. Although CMV culture and DNA detection were negative in the urine, the infant was given foscarnet because CMV infection was demonstrated in the liver by DNA detection and immunohistochemical staining.
