In light of the significant impact of climate change, it is imperative to identify effective solutions to reduce the environmental burdens of industrial production and to promote recycling strategies also for thermosetting polymers. In this work, the mechanical recycling of phenolic resins, obtained from industrial production scrap of plastic knobs for household appliances, was optimized. The feasibility of a partial substitution of virgin materials with recycled ones was investigated both at a laboratory and industrial scale.

The newly designed compounds were synthesized along with the corresponding reference monovalent compounds bearing the corresponding spacers terminated with a tert-butoxycarbonyl group. The novel compounds were tested in binding assays with different CBR preparations such as the cerebral cortex from male CD-1 albino mice or the human recombinant α1β3γ2 and α2β3γ2 γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptors (GABARs) stably expressed in mouse L(tk-) cells.

In recent years, different series of riluzole-based compounds have been reported, including several agents acting as Multi-Target-Directed Ligands (MTLDs) endowed with neuroprotective effects. Aiming at identical twin structures inspired by riluzole (2a-c), a synthetic procedure was planned, but the reactivity of the system took a different path, leading to the serendipitous isolation of benzo[b][1,4]thiazepines 3a-c and expanded intermediates N-cyano-benzo[b][1,4]thiazepines 4a-c, which were fully characterized.

MBHA derivative 7 reacted with n-butylamine or Nα-acetyl-L-lysine methyl ester producing monoadducts 9a or 9c, which showed bright emission features in the green region at 526-535 nm with photoluminescence quantum yield values in solutions of 73 % and 51 %, respectively. Based on these results, MBHA derivative 7 can be considered an interesting new fluorogenic probe potentially useful in the labelling of basic amino acid residues.

A possible interaction of MBHA derivative 7 with a lipophilic pocket within the HSA structure was suggested by docking studies. DLS experiments showed that the reaction with HSA induce a conformational change of the protein contributing to the aggregation process of GFA derivatives.

The reaction of this dimeric MBHA derivative with -butylamine afforded a photoisomerizable macrocyclic crown ether-paracyclophane hybrid architecture that is potentially useful in a large variety of applications as well as those already well-known for crown ethers.

The obtained graft copolymers, thanks to the crosslinking capability of FA, formed in water strong gels as verified by rheological analyses. The resulting hydrogels were characterized to evaluate their applicability as wound dressing.

The aim of our study was to understand cryptic resistance determinants responsible for the phenotypic carbapenem resistance observed in strains circulating in Italy by using a combined approach involving whole genome sequencing (WGS) and genome-wide association study (GWAS). In this study, we collected 303 strains from inside and outside clinical settings between 2018-2022 in the Abruzzo region of Italy.

Recently, combining a photopharmacology approach with the multitarget-directed ligand (MTDL) design strategy, we disclosed a novel donepezil-like compound, namely 2-(4-((diethylamino)methyl)benzylidene)-5-methoxy-2,3-dihydro-1-inden-1-one (), which in the isomeric form (and about tenfold less in the UV-B photo-induced isomer ) showed the best activity as dual inhibitor of the AD-related targets acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B). Herein, we investigated further photoisomerizable 2-benzylideneindan-1-one analogs - with the unconjugated tertiary amino moiety bearing alkyls of different bulkiness and lipophilicity.

Fifty-four isolates were obtained from routine testing for clinical mastitis agents carried out in the author institution in the years 2021 and 2022 and were analyzed for phenotypic resistance to eight antibiotics recommended for testing by European norms and belonging to the antibiotic classes used for mastitis treatment in milk-producing animals. Moreover, the presence of 14 transferable genetic determinants encoding resistance to the same antibiotics was analyzed using qPCR tests developed in this study.

With the aim of generating novel and selective COX-2 inhibiting NO-donors (CINOD) and encouraged by the promising results obtained with our nitrooxy- and hydroxyethyl ethers 11 and 12 reported in previous works, we shifted our attention on the synthesis of isosteric thioanalogs nitrooxy- and hydroxy ethyl sulfides 13a-c and 14a-c, respectively, along with their oxidation products nitrooxy- and hydroxyethyl sulfoxides 15a-c and 16a-c, respectively, also referred to as thio-CINOD. Preliminary data and metabolic analysis highlighted how the isosteric substitution of the ethereal oxygen atom of 11a-c with sulfur in compounds 13a-c, independently from the presence and the number of fluorine atoms in N-phenyl ring, leads to new selective and highly potent COX-2 inhibitors, capable to induce vasorelaxant responses in vivo.

In Europe wildlife animals such as the red fox () are considered the main reservoir for as well as a potential threat for domestic dog infection. Though this parasite is endemic in fox populations, data on infection in wolves () are still scant, having only recently been described in Northwestern Spain, in Italy, in Croatia and in Slovakia. Based on the rising number of cases of canine lungworm infection in Central Italy (Abruzzo region), the aim of the present study was to investigate the infection by in fox and wolf populations sharing the same geographical area of dogs.

For this purpose, 30 Saanen goats were randomly allocated into 2 groups of 15 goats each: the control group received a standard diet that was prepared by taking into account the nutritional needs of lactating goats, whereas the experimental group (EG) was fed with an OL-supplemented diet (10% on a dry matter basis). At the end of the 30 d of the trial, the individual milk samples were collected and immediately analyzed for total phenolic content and antioxidant activity (AOA).
