Objective: To estimate the incidence of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) in Italy and identify problems in data retrieval.
Study Design: The number of all GTD cases recorded from January 2005 to December 2009 was retrieved from pathology department databases of 39 hospitals located in different regions of Italy. The number of total pregnancies registered in each hospital was requested.
Different minimally invasive methods have been proposed to treat renal manifestation of tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), in order to preserve kidney parenchyma and avoid nephrectomy. The case of a boy with bleeding giant angiomyolipoma treated by selective arterial embolization is discussed. The extensive renal lesions resulted significantly decreased, with resolution of arterial hypertension and abdominal symptoms.

Cholesterol metabolism is tightly regulated at the cellular level and is essential for cellular growth. microRNAs (miRNAs), a class of noncoding RNAs, have emerged as critical regulators of gene expression, acting predominantly at posttranscriptional level. Recent work from our group and others has shown that hsa-miR-33a and hsa-miR-33b, miRNAs located within intronic sequences of the Srebp genes, regulate cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism in concert with their host genes.

Taking inspiration from neurophysiological studies on synergies in the human grasping action, this paper tries to demonstrate that it is possible to find a general rule for performing a stable, human-like cylindrical grasp with a robotic hand. To this purpose, the theoretical formulation and the experimental validation of a reach-and-grasp algorithm for determining the optimal hand position and the optimal finger configuration for grasping a cylindrical object with known features are presented. The proposed algorithm is based on the minimization of an objective function expressed by the sum of the distances of the hand joints from the object surface.

Methods: From our heart failure clinic, 372 heart failure patients (269 men, aged 66 ± 11 years), with stable heart failure and ejection fraction 45% or less were recruited. Survival curves were estimated according to the Kaplan-Meier method.
Alkhurma hemorrhagic fever virus (AHFV) is a tick-borne flavivirus with high case fatality rates, endemic in the Arabian Peninsula. Recently AHFV was detected in travelers returning from Egypt suggesting geographical spreading. We also report AHFV infection in a traveler ex Egypt, representing atypical symptoms of rhabdomyolysis and severe muscular weakness.

Background: Excisional toenail matrixectomies are performed on the area of the foot that has been reported to have the highest concentration of resident microorganisms. A retrospective infection audit was performed to identify whether this unique area of the foot was more susceptible to postoperative infection.
Methods: A retrospective audit reviewing the postoperative infection rate over a 6-year period after excisional nail matrixectomy in 111 patients was undertaken.
Background: 31-Phosphorus-magnetic resonance spectroscopy may provide pathophysiological insights into the high-energy phosphate metabolism of the myocardium as measured by phosphocreatine to adenosine triphosphate (PCr/ATP) ratio. Aim of the present study was to determine in vivo the relation between cardiac PCr/ATP ratio and heart rate in normal male subjects.
Methods: One hundred twelve apparently healthy, young male individuals (age 34 ± 10 years) were prospectively evaluated.
Objective: Trimetazidine may have beneficial effects on left ventricular (LV) function in patients with systolic heart failure. The authors assessed whether long-term addition of trimetazidine to conventional treatment could improve, along with LV function, resting whole body energy metabolism in patients with chronic systolic heart failure.
Design: Single blind randomised study.
This communication reports the design and fabrication of porous scaffolds of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) and PCL loaded with hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles with bimodal pore size distributions by a two step depressurization solid-state supercritical CO(2) (scCO(2) ) foaming process. Results show that the pore structure features of the scaffolds are strongly affected by the thermal history of the starting polymeric materials and by the depressurization profile. In particular, PCL and PCL-HA nanocomposite scaffolds with bimodal and uniform pore size distributions are fabricated by quenching molten samples in liquid N(2) , solubilizing the scCO(2) at 37 °C and 20 MPa, and further releasing the blowing agent in two steps: (1) from 20 to 10 MPa at a slow depressurization rate, and (2) from 10 MPa to the ambient pressure at a fast depressurization rate.

Methods And Results: Serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) soluble receptors (sTNF-R1 and sTNF-R2), interleukin (IL)-10 and IL-18, chromogranin A (CgA) and brain natriuretic peptide (pro-BNP) were measured in 37 New York Heart Association class II to IV heart failure patients, at baseline and after 6 months of therapy with carvedilol. Patients were divided in two groups according to whether, following carvedilol, left-ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) had increased by at least 5% (17 patients) or not (20 patients).
In this study, we investigated the processing/structure/property relationship of multi-scaled porous biodegradable scaffolds prepared by combining the gas foaming and NaCl reverse templating techniques. Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), hydroxyapatite (HA) nano-particles and NaCl micro-particles were melt-mixed by selecting different compositions and subsequently gas foamed by a pressure-quench method. The NaCl micro-particles were finally removed from the foamed systems in order to allow for the achievement of the multi-scaled scaffold pore structure.

Technical difficulties in detecting some of these virulence factors together with scantiness of epidemiological information, due to the lack of routine analysis for P. shigelloides as etiological agent of gastroenteritis, lead to sporadic and occasional finding of these bacteria.
